This “context” or “fact check” of my story is INACCURATE. All books in classroom libraries ARE BEING a REMOVED or made inaccessible because they have not been vetted by a librarian.

Florida teachers told to remove books from classroom libraries or risk felony prosecution

Teachers in Manatee County, Florida, are being told to make their classroom libraries — and any other "unvetted" book — inaccessible to students, or risk felony prosecution. The new policy is part of an effort to comply with new laws and regulations championed by Governor Ron DeSantis (R). It is based on the premise, promoted by right-wing advocacy groups, that teachers and librarians are using books to "groom" students or indoctrinate them with leftist ideologies.

Now his website is appending inaccurate information to my reporting to defend DeSantis’ policies.

It’s outrageous.

This fact check by its own terms, is incoherent.

“All books are not being removed”

“Only unvetted books are being removed”

As of today, all books are unvetted!

The policy to have librarians get all books was just announced!

Here is a message sent to teachers at a Manatee high school TODAY: “Remove or cover all classroom libraries until all materials can be reviewed"

Why is Twitter telling it’s readers that all books aren’t being removed?

@[email protected]

The linked article does not support the claim of the fact check
@juddlegum why are people still using Twitter?
@juddlegum Anybody else hearing echoes of Nazi Germany’s Jewish Laws?
@MPgh @juddlegum I am hearing a rise Nazism racism homophobia and misogyny
@juddlegum
As a Manatee County resident I fear the public libraries are next and will face the wrath of DeSantis.
@juddlegum Well, they aren't being removed... they might be covered instead? I don't know.
@juddlegum Quite the syllogism there. I guess Logic isn't on offer either.
@juddlegum cross posting from Twitter isn't always a good choice…
@juddlegum By "this website," do you mean Twitter? I'm reading this post on Mastodon.
@dkmarsh @juddlegum Same. Going to unfollow Judd for a while until he stops cross-posting from the bad place
@dkmarsh i'd say he's pretty clearly talking about twitter, within the context of the thread?
@juddlegum

@Lustyjustice @juddlegum Yes, I’d say so. I’m just not sure why this particular horse is being flogged on Mastodon, where AFAICT, nobody’s adding inaccurate context to any toots.

Not every Twitter thread needs to be crossposted here. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@dkmarsh i mean, i found it helpful bc i've been out of the loop on this issue, so it was informative for me :/
@juddlegum
@juddlegum Please remember that you're posting on Mastodon too.

@juddlegum

you are saying mastodon is not reliable info ?? or you saying twitter?

@juddlegum continued use of Twitter requires a survival coping strategy. The abuse is going to be there. You choose to be there and handle the abuse, or choose to not be there. I'm happily subscribed to your newsletter because I switched to a direct model of info instead of the Twitter feed, because I don't feel like constantly fighting and dealing with the abuse.
@ATLeagle @juddlegum Elon would be upset to hear that you’re skirting the (unhealthy) debate, or what I call fake news. Good for you!
@Chanceux99 @juddlegum I'm so broken that I had to re-read this comment about 6 times to figure out you weren't being mean. I'm jumpy and have to remind myself that everyone here isn't flinging venom
@juddlegum What about starting crossposting from "here" to "there" and not vice versa? Let's bring the discourse here!
@juddlegum @adamjcook Musk is an oligarch. Once you look at him this way…it makes sense.

@Nadinabbott @juddlegum As a long-time critic of the industrial/public safety record of #Tesla in particular… I can assure you that excessive, intentionally misleading “wordsmithing” is in Musk’s DNA and in the DNA of his acolytes.

I am not at all surprised that so-called “Community Notes” have adopted this approach, directly or indirectly.

@Nadinabbott @juddlegum @adamjcook Didn't used to be, back when he shunned politics. But now that he's gotten really political, he's basically the dictionary definition of an oligarch.
The GOP Will not Govern|eBook

The Republican Party as a Party has become a hotbed of elected officials who betray a stunning indifference to the quality of the public policy they pursue, seeing all issues in purely partisan, vaguely ideological terms — "vaguely ideological" because they claim to be "conservative,"...

@juddlegum

Please don't take this wrong, but it then begs the question "Why are you still there?"

@juddlegum You mean Ron DeFascist, right?
@juddlegum you’re on Twitter what do you expect. Like going into a bathroom and complaining that it stinks.

@juddlegum

Leave. Twitter is over. You're just paying his bills now.

@juddlegum so fucking leave the Nazi site then. The longer big accounts like you stay on Twitter, the more power you give Musk
@juddlegum But wait, I've been repeatedly assured that Twitter appending fact check messages and/or misinfo notices to tweets is sensorship! Evil sensorship, I tell you!
@juddlegum I wonder if you can sue them and claim the label is false.
@juddlegum stop using Twitter. Your tweets give it value.
@juddlegum Didn’t a group of narcissists do the same thing in 1930’s Germany? And here I thought that smart people usually learn from their past mistakes humans made.
@juddlegum wild that Elon’s suppressing free speech on a tweet about suppressing free speech
@juddlegum the irony is Twitter’s all about freedom of speech.
@juddlegum saw later posts by you so not sure how real this is, but keeping the populace stupid makes it far easier to govern

@juddlegum
Amazing that:

- Fascist-controlled twitter censors and mangles the work of journalists

- Journalists remain on twitter, imparting it value and legitimacy

- Journalists complain ineffectually about this state of affairs on twitter

- Ineffectual complaints are automatically cross-posted from twitter to a free and open forum upon which journalism could thrive, where our responses will never even be noticed by journalist-complainant who remains on twitter

@juddlegum "we aren't banning books, we're just asking you to remove them until a government agency decides whether or not to ban them"
@juddlegum the fact check seems to be gone now. Apparently enough people voted it down?
@juddlegum@journa. How is it OK to groom children to be right wing extremistS?
