The right focuses on a culture war because they can’t win on policy. Their only policy is further enriching robber barons.

The best way to distract low information voters is to stoke fears of encroaching otherness.

Please keep that in mind when they attack trans people, irreligious people or the Fear du Jour.

@bleakfuture And this is how it's always been.
@BruceMirken this is basically a reminder to myself when I find myself engaging delusional people.
@bleakfuture And the delusional people are certainly prevalent. 😱
@bleakfuture Forever every politician has the same message: Only we can save you from the boogeyman. It will cost you less for our protection and we’ll make you healthier and your kids smarter and every time you rubes fall for it.
@bleakfuture Culture war is their policy. And unfortunately for them, they picked the losing side...
@bleakfuture they are trying to blame immigrants and Biden for causing all the people in Kentucky to be drug addicts now.

@bleakfuture

Fascists always need an ‘other’ to target the wrath of their base towards and to use to make centrists seem unsafe or threatened. It didn't work with gays and lesbians, gay marriage or even gay adoption so they have moved on to a new target.

@bleakfuture It has pretty much always been thus.
Beyond keeping this in mind, for me, is helping people see through/past the dog-whistle politics they've been subject to for decades and generally incorporated into their thinking.

Race-class narrative messaging has shown itself to be very useful in accomplishing this.

If you're not already familiar with it, I've got several links to race-class narrative resources at https://mstdn.social/@joeinwynnewood/109690775778351004.

@bleakfuture If they were really for free markets, less gov't intrusion/regulation, and less gov't spending, I would be a Republican.
I couldn't abide their bigotry and mean-spirted antics, though, even if they otherwise had all great policies. They don't actually act on their talk about limited government, so they really offer nothing me.
@cgervasi I was a swing voter until the 08 election, when Sarah Palin was elevated to a place of prominence. I am not currently a swing voter.
