#hpc anyone using buildah, to generate images for their cluster?
@the_curiostech OS images or container images? I’ve used buildah a bit to build a container image that I’m compiling Linux kernels with
@weezel I’m hoping and thinking it’s a good full OS image maker. I’d like to build the image and then use the buildah connector to run ansible against the image. Thinking it would be a great way to manage and update cluster images
@the_curiostech Yeah, we do something very similar to create and serve images for our clusters at the #OLCF. We haven’t open sourced the code yet or I’d link you to it. Have you made any progress?
@weezel some progress. I’m hoping to generate a diskless image to PXE boot nodes with. And doing this in my down time after work is difficult, as burnout can creep in
@the_curiostech Totally doable. If you want to chat sometime (in a more synchronous way) just let me know!
@weezel sweet! :D
@the_curiostech How is the project going? I wanted to check back in on ya
@weezel work has stalled on my personal projects as my work has intensified. Which sucks, but my team is going to be deploying a lot of compute in the coming months and that doesn’t include the compute we’ve already deployed. Ugh… a 4 day weekend isn’t enough to recover.
@the_curiostech oh no! Well, it sounds like y’all have been really productive though. Cut through the tech debt with automation where you can!
@weezel trying!! But you know the old saying two steps forward 4 bugs generated
@the_curiostech Yes, but the path to enlightenment is realizing you get paid to fix those bugs, too. If it were easy, someone else would have automated it by now ;)
@weezel thank you for the encouragement!
