The told us #COVID19 risks were exaggerated.
They told us you could only get it once and we'd achieve herd immunity.
They told us kids were at no risk.
They told us vaccines were risky.
They told us Long COVID was a mental illness.
The told us Omicron was mild.
They told us repeat infections would be safe.
They told us masks don't work.
They told us COVID was over or endemic.
They're going to keep lying. The only question is why so many people keep listening and repeating those lies.
@augieray so what is your point? What should people do instead? How should the society be functioning right now?
@TVaa Given we're in a rapidly-evolving pandemic with significant rates of disabling outcomes, does it really strike you as odd that we could be a bit more cautious? I am tired of lazy people who pretend that there's nothing between us acting normal and the destruction of "functioning society." Maybe we could wear masks in crowds. Easy, right? Or, when COVID is surging, we diminish activities in crowds, the way we decrease driving when snow is around. We adjust to other risks--why not COVID?
@augieray @TVaa When the CDC told us we could stop wearing masks in public, back in May of 2021, just before Delta hit, they assured us that they would call for #MaskingUp again if there was a surge. 2 or more surges later, they’ve done no such thing. They lied. 🤬
