#GooglePlus #GooglePlusRefugee
@chickenbert Unfotunately no. I was an avid G+ user, but back when it shut down, most users went to Twitter primarily. There was also a contingent going to Diaspora which, while being a federated platform, isn't using Activitypub (or at least wasn't, I don't know if that's changed).
A rather small number of people went directly to Mastodon, which means there was never a direct migration path from G+ to Mastodon. Over the years, I guess the "G+ identity" faded and while many of the people who have joined recently might have been on G+, they probably identify themselves more like "ex twitter people" these days.
I only know of a handful of people I was in regular contact with on G+ that are here now.
@chickenbert Oh yeah, mewe was one of those services people went to. I haven't heard that in a while.
It appears it still exists.
@chickenbert I was already on the Fediverse before the shutdown announcement, so I just stayed here.
I did create accounts on other services but, like you, I never stuck around. I decided to try to log in to mewe again but it appears that not loggining in for, what? 5 years? resulted in my account being deleted.
I wonder if it's active at all.
@chickenbert Any particular reason you feel that way? I'm asking the question that way because I disagree.
I think my opinion on it is similar to that of many other here, but just to ensure my position is clear, I believe it's a bit of a money grab, an attempt to capture people leaving twitter and herd them into yet another corporate controlled silo where the users' attention can be mined for not only profit but also to create some kind of network effect.
@chickenbert Long posts with rich text is available here as well. The base Mastodon software doesn't allow it, but all the others do. And many instances that run Mastodon can use Glitch instead, which is a fork that supports these things.
If you're on an instance that uses plain Mastodon you may not see this, but this post contains bold text as well as italics.
This should be rendered as a headline
And there is even support for links with descriptions.
Now, I could keep writing just to show how long posts works, but I'm sure you've seen other people posting ridiculously long posts. I personally believe that Website Boy will eventually relent and enable these features in his own version. 🙂
@chickenbert Or a plus. It depends on perspective.
Or to be a bit more specific, it's a side effect of a plus.
