One of the things I have learned in my short time on Mastodon is that there are a lot of "weird" people. Weird in an awesome way. Like those who hold entire conversations about insects, and rocks and things that you probably never gave a second thought to, but turn out to be fascinating nonetheless. It's almost like having your own mini discovery channel right at your fingertips. Weird, but yet, oh so cool. Thanks! Us weirdos need to stick together! #TheOwlHouse
@therichierichaye
Oh yeah, Mastodon is a great place to just be a weirdo, especially with how instances feel like a "private corner" where only people who'd want to see your content will even have access to it, anyone who comes around to be rude will be moderated, and there's such good ways to mark that content.

@therichierichaye

It is pretty wonderful that way. :)

I'd no clue that the #Mastodon service was as old as it is or that something called a #Fediverse exists (much less how or why).

Other sites have always had a stilted feeling to me, except for #LiveJournal and the infancy of the #birdsite. Everything here feels so free and open and fresh.

I should go and research more so I'll understand about all the tech-things I just don't get yet, but I'm having too much fun people hopping to stop.

@therichierichaye Weirdos of the world unite (here on fediverse), you have nothing to lose but our collective ignorance and boredom :P
@therichierichaye I feel called out & in - at the same time ๐ŸฅฐโœŒ
@therichierichaye There used to be people like that on Twitter but they were mostly drowned out by celebrities.
@AlgoCompSynth @therichierichaye
Agree early Twitter was very much like that.
And also pics of what people were having for lunch.
@therichierichaye I believe that everybody is #AwesomeWeird, but so few of us are confident enough to claim it.
@therichierichaye I so very much agree! This is one of the MANY reasons I โค๏ธ #Mastodon and the #Fediverse
@therichierichaye Yes, #mastodon is a fascinating space, just the way I imagined social networks should be. For the other types, they have their reddits, 4chan, and whatnot. With a bitter Twitter experience, I hope they donโ€™t pollute this space. BTW, what is your weirdness?
@plants that would be telling. The fun is in finding out!
@therichierichaye the discovery channel abandoned us for junk science and reality television. Now the internet brings me real scientists directly and this is a FEATURE!
@therichierichaye it's a bit splendid isn't it, the wealth of weirdness๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿค—
@therichierichaye Truth ๐Ÿ‘†I love the experience!

@therichierichaye

Its wonderful to discover that our weirdness does not prevent others from seeing us as siblings.

Wonderful to discover that those so different are kin.

@therichierichaye
I love it! I'm learning so much. And all the wonderful hashtags are great too: #Mosstodon, #Asstodon, #LichenSubscribe, #FensterFreitag ... Although the people I do follow on Twitter are a very diverse lot, it took me a long time to find them, while here I've found awesomely weird people very quickly.
@therichierichaye when I showed up in late October of last year it felt like turning the dial on a ham radio. I loved it. And Mastodon has remained an amassing place thatโ€™s so wonderfully unfiltered by any unseen hand.
@therichierichaye Iโ€™m loving it so far. I spend only about 30 minutes a day here and find it relaxing instead of anxiety producing. And like you mentioned, thereโ€™s an opportunity to learn so many new things about stuff that previously never crossed my mind. But Iโ€™m still discovering how best to find new people and new topics. Itโ€™s not a straight line for me but eventually it will get easier.
@therichierichaye this is my favorite thing about it!
@therichierichaye this is just so true! wonderful โ€œrabbit holesโ€ of sharing and conversation all this place. kudos to you for writing so eloquently about your experience.
@therichierichaye And that's EXACTLY why I feel so at home here ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
@therichierichaye Birdwatching is fun, truffle hunting dogs are cool, identifying trees is a favoriteโ€”
Finer details all jumbled into a random serendipitous experience can be its own kind of pleasure
@therichierichaye You are so right. I realized earlier today that I was fascinated by the diversity of ideas Iโ€™m now exposed to, from disciplines I have no experience with. Sometimes itโ€™s over my head, but it always makes me stop to have a look. And the best part - thereโ€™s no damn algorithm filling my feed with junk!
@therichierichaye Indeed you have spoken the truth.
@therichierichaye yes, and it makes me strangely deeply happy. Owls! Clouds! Foxes! Curious things with delight!
@therichierichaye Twitter and Reddit were great at early days of social media, now they're corrupt and became more unsafe for newcomers. Reddit Admin team is corrupt as promised.
@therichierichaye
๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ˜Š
@therichierichaye The more conversations and pics of insects and rocks and birds, as far as I'm concerned, the better. It's called being curious about the world.
@therichierichaye indeed. I'm most especially enjoying the vintage tech stuff

@therichierichaye

So many wonderful weirdos, like I finally found the entrance to the secret magical village. Feel like I can embrace all my varied interests and find resonance. Love that it's in its infancy still so we can community build. Every day I find some interesting person I am eager to hear.
#WeirdosUnite

@therichierichaye turns out being "weird" doesn't make us the odd ones out like those childhood bullies wanted us to believe, huh? ๐Ÿ˜„
@therichierichaye Yes! Following hashtags has been brilliant here, like walking through the best cafe in the world, with so many conversations happening and where enthusiasm is welcomed, not mocked.

@therichierichaye

Yes it's better than politics ! There are photographers, writers, artists, bookworms and there's a lot out there to learn.

@therichierichaye you're absolutely right, it's far more stimulating and fun than the other experience! #KnowledgeIsFun #KnowledgeIsPleasure
@therichierichaye
Growing up and as a young adult, I was often described as, "weird, but nice". Mastodon feels like home in that regard.
