Papers on #urban #heat keep stating that #Landsat's #thermal data are at 30 m resolution.

Native resolution of Landsat's thermal band, depending on generation, is between 60 m & 120 m. Then it is resampled to 30 m.

Given the discontinuities at that scale over cities, there is little real signal at 30 m.

Adding to this, the #downscaling method they use (I think cubic convolution) assumes a continuous underlying distribution of the data. This assumption is rarely satisfied over #urban areas, especially when detecting #hotspots.

This #paper has some good illustrations of this: https://doi.org/10.5721/EuJRS20164929
