Iceberg Alley: A View of Enormous Icebergs Drifting in Front of Your Window - Hasan Jasim

Iceberg Alley, which stretches from the Arctic to the southeast coast of the island of Newfoundland, is the ideal location for iceberg viewing - even from your kitchen window while cooking the local favorite 'Jiggs supper.' You'll never run out of icebergs to see if you live in Canada's Iceberg Alley. And when the sea

@annecavicchi What kind of homeowner's insurance policies do people get over there? I don't know whether the comparison is valid, but it makes me think of the "affordable" Hawai'ian homes built on lava plains.
@annecavicchi Iceberg alley is roughly 330 feet deep. These massive bergs travel according to wind and ocean currents. This can be as fast as 10 miles in a day!
@annecavicchi Wow!! I can't believe this. Especially seeing it through my kitchen window. Incredible. 😱
@annecavicchi So cool and so disturbing.
@annecavicchi Amazing! Looks like a wacky photoshop experiment!
@annecavicchi my goodness! Had a late friend from Pound Cove. Anywhere near there?
@nyc2msp Looks like about a 2 hour drive.
@annecavicchi on the north coast I believe he told me. When he died in Minneapolis he was buried up at PC.

@annecavicchi
150 ft up! Means how many ft down?!!

Ps: I thought Canadians were metric?

@WayOut We are on the metric system, but often refer to things in imperial too! We're "bi-lingual" 😂
@annecavicchi
I’m wondering,,, if that iceberg grinds the bottom that close to this home can they’Feel’ it??…
@annecavicchi Imagine waking up to that in your back yard one morning. Holy crap! 😳
@annecavicchi Keep in mind we're only seeing 10% of it above the water.
@annecavicchi imagine living on an iceberg
@annecavicchi beautiful though it's a bit of aperspective trick to make it appear more immersive. It's still kinda magical to me that there are just giant ice cubes floating around that can sink ships.
@wraptile
Yes, a telephoto can shrink the distance for sure.
But if this single-story house is about 30 ft. high (guessing?), and the iceberg is 150 ft, it would be 5 times taller than the house, so actually the iceberg looks smaller than it is. Yikes!
@annecavicchi looks like bad early ray tracing
@annecavicchi and this is where I want one of those Zuckerville *whoa* emojis. Very cool (yeah, in more ways than one).
@annecavicchi
Makes me homesick.
East coaster here now in Australia
@annecavicchi what is even more frightening is that this is considerably further south of Scotland, and in the event that the Gulf Stream, the Atlantic Conveyor or whatever it is being called just now, were to slow down or stop we would find ourselves in a very different climate 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🥶🥶
@annecavicchi
Stunning and just a bit scary
@annecavicchi so amazing and beautiful
@annecavicchi Wow! Thank you for posting this. My mind seems to be having difficulty though focusing between the majestic glacier and then bouncing to the fact that someone built a house right in the middle of that (And all that that must entail.).
@dchansen There is a whole town there! 😀
@annecavicchi I am still trying to process a single house and now you want to spring on me that there is an entire town? At least I now know how they are getting their electricity. :)
@dchansen Have a look at the website - it's pretty cool!
@annecavicchi
Wife: "Honey, when are you going to take care of that iceberg in the backyard?"
Me: Don't worry, it'll pass.
@annecavicchi Was für ein Wahnsinnsbild! What an amazing picture. Wow!
@annecavicchi oh, what a pretty view of the current catastrophe. are there still polar bear carcasses sitting on it? maybe someone still wants to take an entrance fee for it? -.-
@annecavicchi Wow indeed! But also a bit terrifying to watch, I think. So big and imposing.
@annecavicchi
Glory! 🇨🇦
That's a great real estate pic for "Great views" and "Location-location-LocatioN!"
@annecavicchi amazing, but also a kind of "last chance to see" view.
@annecavicchi 👀 holy cow that takes my breath away.
@annecavicchi 150 ft of high or of width (or both) ?
@gobelin_nounours I believe that is the height.
