The Fediverse Report

@elk @antfu @daniel @sxzz @patak

So far it seems really great! Thank you for this instance. Seems very smooth to this user. Great way to start the year of the rabbit. Maybe its the year of the Elk.

@elk
Hi, this looks great! I got an error when I tried to use it with frenfiverse.net do you need a bug report? Should I just try again in a while?

@antfu @daniel @sxzz @patak

@elk interesting that you have corporate sponsors (NuxtLabs & StackBlitz). Can you provide some background on their interest in and support of the project?

I’m curious because the business side of the Fediverse is so immature. Eager to collect data on what seems to be working.

@PeterBronez @elk hey Peter! Daniel and Anthony work at Nuxt Labs on the Open Source side (Nuxt and ecosystem) and I work at StackBlitz (focusing on the @vite ecosystem). Both Nuxt and StackBlitz are one of the biggest sponsors of Vite development, and you'll see their logos in other projects like @vitest (https://vitest.dev). Elk has become an incredible showcase of a full fledge Nuxt 3 (powered by Vite) app. We've learned a lot, fixed tons of issues in Nuxt and Vite ecosystem plugins while working on it and is now a great project for others to learn about this tech stack. So for us, Elk duals as a great learning tool for the ecosystem moving forward. We're also using tools from both companies for collaboration like Volta and Codeflow (we would use them without being sponsored though).

@PeterBronez I believe, and I'll happily be corrected, that two of the devs work for these companies.

Given how active they are my assumption is that they've been allowed to work on the project on company time.

@elk I love how this client works! There are a couple issues I'm really looking forward to fixes for. But it seems like such a good client so far!

My favorite things so far are:

- The way alt text is displayed (I can select and copy it, even in the web app! And I can see whether something has alt text in the web app!)

- Nested notifs! No more "User 1 liked Post 1, here is Post 1. User 2 liked Post 1, here is Post 1. User 3 -"

(1/2)

@elk (2/2)

Favorite things, continued:

- Ability to see number of favorites, boosts, and replies - with an option to hide it for favorites/boosts!

- Colors and graphics that vibe well with my brain πŸ₯Ί I love Mastodon, but I do much better with... rounder, brighter design...? In any case, Elk works better for me in this way.

- Reply threading!! I can actually see who's replying to whom!

I'm sure I'm missing a bunch of stuff, but overall, I'm very excited for this client!

Congratulations to Elk on its open source. Special thanks to @sxzz for giving me the opportunity to participate and witness Elk's progress in early previews.
@elk @elk @antfu @daniel @sxzz @patak great work! Reading this from Elk and love the experience.
@elk @elk @antfu @daniel @sxzz @patak this is so nice, guys, I have no words. Really, really good job! I love the direction this is heading.
