Elon Musk fired Twitter's entire staff in Brazil except a few salespeople.

Among those fired: "eight people who moderated content on the platform in order to catch posts that broke its rules against incitement to violence and misinformation."

Come to the ‘war cry party’: How social media helped drive mayhem in Brazil

Just like with Donald Trump's defeat in 2020, supporters of Jair Bolsanaro used social media, particularly Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, to fuel the anger that exploded on Sunday in Brasília.

@samueloakford

And some people still think staying there is a good idea?

@samueloakford I mean Musk was literally tweeting against the election anyway so those 8 would have been fired when they asked awkward questions
@samueloakford accessory to domestic terrorism.
@samueloakford I am in favor or repealing section 230, passing a law that clarifies that for profit micro blogging internet companies are publishers, and requiring that for profit publishers must exercise good faith effort in not promoting incendiary lies and calls for violence, otherwise they incur civil liability.
@samueloakford Basically if a company makes money being a speech platform they have to use some on fact checking and editorial discretion. Or face liability for carelessness. "Oh no, that might put some reckless people out of business"... yeah, it might. "That might be hard to litigate. Then you would be regulating free speech". Courts make hard decisions about people lying for money everyday, they can handle it.
@samueloakford So basically Espionage, or maybe a violation of the Logan Act. Acting to affect foreign policy outside of our official federal government.
@samueloakford and? Nothing will he done about it
@samueloakford international security situation.

@samueloakford I for one, welcome #Brazil to the Fediverse.

#introdução 💚💛🤍💙

@samueloakford he's alleged that the ones he fired had 'left-wing bias'?
@samueloakford this is not a coincidence. This is planned. I hope people see what’s happening here.
@samueloakford can the Brazilian govt sue him? Seems like he could be found negligent
@samueloakford Twitter is now in violation of the Supreme Court order to block some profiles.
@samueloakford pelo menos os fascistas podem se organizar de boa para atos terroristas contra de democracia brasileira. #Twitter #brasil #golpefascista
@samueloakford Hate speech cannot have a free environment to proliferate and organize itself! Mr. Musk must be aware that these kind of action just endorses scenes like seen yesterday in Brasília
@samueloakford Billionaire Elon Musk, who completed his acquisition of Twitter in late October, fired the company's entire staff in Brazil except for a few salespeople, said a person familiar with the firings who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe sensitive matters. (1-2) #pracegover #forblindpeople
@samueloakford Among those fired in early November included eight people, based in Sao Paulo, who moderated content on the platform in order to catch posts that broke its rules against incitement to violence and misinformation, the person said. The person said they were not aware of any teams actively moderating rule-breaking content on Twitter in Brazil. (2-2) #pracegover #forblindpeople
@samueloakford
no surprise here ; he purchased the now decimated social media platform to further
"white nationalist", G🐽P propaganda network 👊🇺🇲⚖️ 🕯️
(the game's afoot, winner takes all ⏳)
@samueloakford
Nobody should be on the bird site anymore.
Period.
@samueloakford can't even go to Brazil in ohio 💀
@samueloakford if you're still on Twitter get off it.
@samueloakford That makes Musk complicit. Would the US extradite if requested?
@samueloakford he just likes helping out coups where he can lol
@samueloakford - Clearly Musk hearts fascists.

@samueloakford So shouldn’t the Brazilian government now require Twitter to be sold to Brazil like the US wants to do with tiktok? :)

They should probably outlaw it though. Seems like the sensible option.

@samueloakford
The muskrat is a clear and present danger to the United States…and the rest of the world 🌎.
In a sidenote, he’s also a moronic douchebag. He’s not a “crazy genius”; he’s just crazy.
@samueloakford The US had better not stand in the way of extradition of Bannon and the other US ringleaders.
@samueloakford The consequences of giving an oligarch power over the so-called “public square.”
So disturbing.
@samueloakford — two points of data, here & now Brazil. A third to make a trend?

@samueloakford

Musk knows which side he's on.

@samueloakford Personally I feel like you'd need more than 8 people to moderate brazil's twitter posting in the first place
@samueloakford Bannon and Stephen Miller helped to invite the riots in Brazil. Obviously Musk was on board
