#LittleLulu by #JohnStanley. The cultural context for gags like these is long gone, but Stanley’s cartooning, his control of the specific rhythms and quirks of the medium, is so great that every page, every panel, still delights.

One of my favorite cartoonists. I’ve learned so much from him about how #comics work.

@stevelieber Did he also do some of the bubble-gum comic inserts? The art style is tweaking dim memories of visiting the barber shop as a child (where said gum was handed out, and where I valued the comics far more than the gum). Perhaps it's just the more typical styles of the period. But I also always appreciate the skill of an artist who can deliver story or gag without words at all.
