Replacing sondbar and configuring remote

I had work to do after the optical audio port on my Yamaha soundbar broke and my universal remote stopped controlling my internet-deprived Roku TV.

I forgot to highlight my Linux take when I first posted. I use my desktop computer as my TV media center since my TV is right next to my monitors (it is closer to the computer than my monitors, in fact). My main desktop environment is XFCE -- I must say the GUI display manager for switching between monitors and saving configs is excellent.
