Someone replied to one of my Toots yesterday saying that they "didn't have a life worth Tooting about."

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Earlier I posted about having to do laundry and how I kept putting it off for 3 days. Only a few people responded, but we still made a brief but fun connection. Not because we were told to meet by some algorithm, but because of circumstance.

Kind of like if I had gone to a laundromat.

Connections, even brief ones, can be meaningful.

@Mrfunkedude

This touched *feel* in me

Don't know why

I appreciate your post

@gotklss2 thank you. I appreciate your enjoying my post.

@Mrfunkedude
Perhaps more should show appreciation

Stop and feel the feels? 🤗

@Mrfunkedude It's true. I've been blogging and doing social media since 2003, and people love the small personal bits of our lives. I know I do. I just read a long bit about a cat stealing snacks from her blind owner. Earlier I read about a friend's soup and enjoyed it.
@Mrfunkedude I was thinking about this recently, after seeing people talk about owning your content, blogging, IndieWeb, etc. It all sounds great until I start wondering what I would put out there and whether it would be worth all the effort. You make a good point, though, about those laundromat-type interactions. I think they get discounted as artificial because they're with with random internet strangers, but why isn't the same standard applied to interactions at the laundromat?
@Mrfunkedude But you didn't have to go to a laundromat, did you? The last time I went to a laundromat, the manager got into a fistfight with a customer and I swore I would never go one again. (That was 40 years ago, and so far I've been able to stick to my promise to myself.)

@LPerry2 @Mrfunkedude in Ireland, the laundry was a friendly place where they provided extra services from folding all the way to full serve and delivery.

American laundromats are cold, dry, automated places, coin-op, maximize profit and minimize human interaction.

@LPerry2 @Mrfunkedude last time I went to a laundromat was in college. One dryer had the front panel unlocked, so 3 of us guys turned off the gas, hotwired the start and took rides in it to pass the time.
@Mrfunkedude I'm doing laundry right now, as a matter of fact. It's the second load. Playing around on here while that's going on.

@Mrfunkedude Thank-you for this.

I’ve found Mastodon to be the kindest place for someone like me, who has zero ability to produce ‘hot takes’ but still wants to talk…

No-one would answer on the bird app, but here ppl do, it’s really helping me to open up and share more. 💗

@autisticbookclub @Mrfunkedude I don’t see people dunking on each other in the same mean ways here. I hope it stays that way because we need more kindness in the world. Glad you are here!
@ev @autisticbookclub @Mrfunkedude
Yes it's a kinder place to be. Enjoy your day.
@autisticbookclub @Mrfunkedude this is my experience here vs there as well. There maybe one or two people interacted with my stuff but here several people do and I really love that aspect.
@Mrfunkedude very sweetly put. I had a similar experience on Mastodon when responding to someone about how to de-tangle their long curly hair!!
@Mrfunkedude
Only 3 days? Life goals🙂😁
@Mrfunkedude this is the issue i have - like what do i have to toot? a work in progress forsure!
@humaninterror why did you have the breakfast you had today?

@Mrfunkedude well! I suppose I chose what I chose because of recently restarted gym regiment. that and the fact that I'm a commuter means it's gotta easy and edible behind the wheel.

any guesses?

@humaninterror see? You do have things too toot about.
@humaninterror @Mrfunkedude banana, or protein shake…now I need to know what you had for breakfast 🤣
@Mrfunkedude @TriciaA17 So close! Protein bar 👨‍🍳 Breakfast of champions ✨😂
@humaninterror @Mrfunkedude I was guessing like it’s the Wordle of breakfast foods 🤣

@Mrfunkedude
This touched my heart.

We never know the power of a caring and kind word. That connection might be just what someone desperately needs in that very moment.

@Mrfunkedude Yep.
This place is like Livejournal used to be except with better opportunity to find new people.
@Mrfunkedude I appreciate the reminder. I’d been feeling that way lately. Wanting to make friends on mastadon but feeling like I have nothing to say
@Mrfunkedude Agreed!!! Although, I am so self conscious about talking about myself. I'm no one. No one in my life listens to me. I'm invisible. Why would anyone care about my life, lol. I am so boring!
But I am really glad I follow you. Because you are the most encouraging Mastodoner. :) (is there a word for us?)
@Mrfunkedude Hello to you, this is Christopher from the friendliest city in the world. Melbourne Australia. Lovely meeting you here.☺️
@Mrfunkedude i wish it was true for me as well :(
@garuma why isn’t it?

@Mrfunkedude i rarely get interacts unless i put hashtags or if it’s about something severe

nobody in my zone likes to hear about the small stuff in my life

@garuma just look at everyone using the #today hashtag. There’s obviously people who do pay attention. You just haven’t found them yet.
@Mrfunkedude :( just being bit lonely on this little yard
@Mrfunkedude
Excellent Toot !
love the laundromat analogy !
@Mrfunkedude Very well put. Although, I still won't bee tooting about doing laundry. But the most enjoyable conversations are those that come unexpectedly.
@Mrfunkedude Agreed- it’s sometimes just a kind word or smile that can bring peace to someone else. It’s like the butterfly effect #peace
@Mrfunkedude I find I share as much or more about myself in comments on others’ posts than in my own original posts. Being prompted by a conversation feels more natural than making an announcement about myself. Everybody has to do laundry and probably has a relatable “laundry pile” anecdote, but it’s easy to overthink the worth or originality of such anecdotes in crafting an original post.

On a related note, one thing I appreciate about the ActivityPub protocol (which Mastodon is built on) is that commenting on someone else’s post causes that post to be available to your followers. So, my feed feels a little like a party where I can flit between conversations and actually hear people talk without shouting. “What are y’all talking about over here? Oh, laundry? That’s a funny laundry story. I can totally picture that. You know, I had this one lonely sock that I couldn’t match for weeks and its mate turned up in …” and so on.
@Mrfunkedude
Here is a Christmas tale. We live in a small village in the Benelux.Two of my neighbours are Russian and have lived here for quite a few years. Since the war they have taken in Ukrainian refugees. Every year we drop in New Year's and Xmas cards as we like to do that. Every year they knock on the door to thank us and we have a drink together. If anyone has a problem we help each other out. That goes for our other neighbours as well. If only world disputes could be solved so easily.
@Mrfunkedude 34% of my social life was inter-acting with retail check-out clerks during Covid. I refuse to do self check-out as the machines fail to get my one-liners, cliches and dad jokes. One time I wanted $40 cash back from the checker. He asked what denominations I would like. I said 40 singles cuz I was going to a tittie bar. Had him and his bagger bustin' up.
@Mrfunkedude #today I did laundry, which is currently “trending” - who knew?!
And I made tacos, cuz doing laundry makes me hungry.
@TriciaA17 #today I got soaking wet taking one of our cats to the vet for his innoculations. That's 2 out of five done so far. #cats not getting soaked. Been soaked nearly every day since Christmas.
@BogLoper five? You are a cat god! Especially since you’re keeping them safe, healthy and cozy in what sounds like a very wet world.
@TriciaA17 Sounds even wetter #today. There is a warning from the MET office for heavy rain. Makes me wonder if someone goes out with some scales and weighs it? Next vet visit tomorrow morning at 10.20. Number 3/5 - Patch Cat. He's obviously a cat but only comes if you use the 'cat' on the end.
@BogLoper I think they use a measuring cup of some sort to measure precipitation, rain and snow. Pretty archaic, but maybe it’s been updated by now (middle school science class was a long time ago) Your cat sounds like an aristocrat, he insists on using his proper name - first and last. Now that’s classy!
@TriciaA17 Five of them. Ginger Prince. His sister Princess. Splodge (f) and her brother Patch cat (rescues) plus Cuthbert, left behind when our neighbours moved. He spent more time in ours anyway:
@BogLoper is this Patch Cat? He looks so stoic!
@TriciaA17 Cuthbert. I'll try and find a pic of Patch Cat for you.
@BogLoper I love that name, and Splodge too! Very different and memorable.
@TriciaA17 The Big Ginger Cat:
@BogLoper Ohmygosh he’s so cute!
@TriciaA17 Big cuddly teddy bear of a cat. Deepest fur you ever stroked.
