Still figuring out how this works, but super psyched about #nashtodon ♥️

#nashville #midTN

@K8lovett - I'm digging Mastodon too. I didn't know there was a #nashtodon until after I hopped on techhub.social server.

The different servers were the hardest thing for me to wrap my head around.

If you are coming from the little blue bird, there are sites for you to help find your friends. This is what I used - https://www.movetodon.org/

Movetodon: Finds your Twitter Friends on Mastodon

@mdave thank you! That looks super helpful! I too scratched my head over it and joined as @K8lovett first, so I’m experimenting with using them as different channels for tech and local happenings. 🤷‍♀️ 🙃
Glad to connect!

I have found the "multi account" approach to be an amazing experience this far!

I actually have 3 : one on a medium sized server with an amazing moderator that I use as my primary presence, one on a huge server whose federated feed helps me keep up with realtine happenings (like Twitter-lite), and this one - where I'm hoping to keep up with my community directly.

@Mike @K8lovett @mdave @K8lovett My current approach is similar. I am keeping my mastodon.social account as my “main” one but I like the idea of the smaller and more focused community here. I have both set up in Ivory so it’s pretty easy to switch back and forth (though I don’t yet have a habit of checking Nashtodon as often because there’s not as much activity).
@sharding @Mike @K8lovett @K8lovett I guess I looked at mastodon as an alternative to twitter in the same sense as one feed and using lists to segment. I’m not sure I want to split my personality over several user accounts. lol, I’m already pulled in enough directions. 🤪 But I do appreciate the non-centralized nature of the system.

@mdave @sharding @K8lovett @K8lovett

I get that 100%. I guess my Twitter experience splintered off into separate directions organically because of a podcast I run, so I was already living a multiaccount lifestyle.

Once I got to the fediverse, I loved the ability to hyperfocus small servers (I ran one for comicbooks for a minute), but I also wanted to get the news, so yea, I went back to splitting my accounts. 😁

@Mike @sharding @K8lovett @K8lovett - So, with multiple accounts on different servers, it's relatively easy to switch? Even on the browser version?

@mdave @sharding @K8lovett @K8lovett

I primarily use the #Tusky app (android) on my phone - it's easy peasy with that.

The only account I have the browser version logged into is my primary account. That's gonna be logically different, because you log into the instance directly from the browser (your app usually takes care of that step for you on the phone).

So yes it's likely easy, but a bit clunky from the desktop

@Mike @mdave @K8lovett @K8lovett On desktop I just keep them in separate tabs and it's not a big deal. On mobile I use Ivory, and it has a dropdown at the top left to switch between accounts. I do wish that it had a unified way to view posts from across accounts in a single timeline, but it's still in alpha, so they may add that at some point.
@K8lovett was thinking about putting together a follow list of Nashville folks. Which would be great to have for many reasons but also could be a cool way to promote the Nashtodon instance to locals. Something like this: https://raster.github.io/Mastodon-Milwaukee/ Thoughts?
Mastodon Milwaukee

@n8foo that’s a great idea! We could always poke r/Nashville too. Maybe some popular Nashville Twitter accounts that are making the jump could help promote.. happy to help with whatever! :)
@K8lovett Hey Kate, I'm back to thinking about this again, on the upcoming 1 year anniv of all of us jumping ship from the hellsite. I could probably tackle this task in the next few weeks ahead of Oct 23rd. Thoughts?
