#HellaStorm link/resource roundup

i manage my natural disaster stress by hoarding links to useful resources like some kind of web-dwelling dragon. i've tried to keep to relatively authoritative sources in order to cut down on potential misinformation, but make no guarantees about the accuracy of anything in these links. i'll update this as i come across relevant resources (please feel free to reply with your go-tos as well & i'll add them in). in no particular order, here's my current list in case it helps anyone:

NOTE: the links and suggestions are coming faster than i can keep up with them! thank you! i am no longer able to keep this updated! if you are in need of a resource you can't find on my list please be sure to check out the replies!

AWARE - Zonehaven

Aware is the fastest way to get information about live emergencies. The data in Aware comes straight from your local officials, and can show you when to get ready to evacuate, when to evacuate, where to go, and when you can return home.

@flowers Hello, fellow web dragon! My pared down version of this list is pinned on my page & now yours is bookmarked. (scooping wing around your treasure)
@ninahatfield @flowers when you say โ€œpinned to your pageโ€ what does that mean? Where? Iโ€™d like to save it too please
@TequilaMockingbird @flowers Thanks for asking! I meant that if you click on my profile name or picture, it takes you to my profile page and the first post you see when you scroll down is one I've "pinned" meaning it stays at the top of my posts even as newer posts are added.
@flowers I would add many towns have very good local websites and social media outreach (I used to live in East Palo Alto and still see their social media - they are updating frequently with where crews are working to prevent flooding, availability of sandbags etc. Ianyone living in a smaller town look for their town and country websites and social media accounts for similar updates. San Jose (where I live now) likewise has good social media with links to their updated emergency measures etc.
@flowers Iโ€™ve been missing my local news and government posts since I left Twitter. This is a good start. I wish theyโ€™d all ๐Ÿ˜€ come over to mastodon or post.
@flowers Adding to this, www.wunderground.com a weather site with information from local weather buffs, so itโ€™s specific to where you live, with up to 10 day weather forecasts including wind and rain at specific times of day. Essential for people who live in areas not covered by regular weather stations.
@flowers weather tags are easy. Two letters for the state and then wx. So #CAWX and now maybe this will lead folks to your very useful post.

@flowers that's quite an extensive list you have!!!

Excellent info to have for the next couple of days. Thank you!

@flowers Thank you for this useful list. And also for the imagery of "hoarding links to useful resources like some kind of web-dwelling dragon."
I feel seen.
@flowers thank you! I feel safer already.
@flowers great idea . . . as long as you have power and/or cell service. We had neither for over 24 hours. I wish there had been more reporting on the radio about the status of cable & power.
@flowers this is SO HELPFUL. Thank you!!
