The paranoia among people who are now significantly influential within their community is absolutely off the charts. McCarthy attended some WEF event and their site has a profile for him - “Majority Leader”, a role he prev held. Wayback shows how old it is. But the replies and quote tweets swear this is uncovering a vast plot.

Large swaths of people just split off completely into a bespoke reality.

There seems to be no point in bothering to fact-check anything - the audience won’t trust it - and Community Notes is a failure (only ~2k people allowed to create notes). 🫥 So the outrage amplification machines are at full power and Elon’s pronouncements about “reach” and “community fact checking” are essentially impossible to execute on.

In another example from last night, this completely misstated claim about “1598 athlete cardiac arrests” based on an anon blog that was aggregating random health incident stories (including cancer and falling off cliffs) got boosted by the owner reply (over 10MM views by today) and made it to Tucker where several million more likely saw it.

Thread on it here if you want to visit bird site: https://twitter.com/noUpside/status/1610469397927280641?s=20&t=CrTzP4c9bn0udNmelsWmBQ

@Noupside yup..made it to a discord server I'm in. Even a nephrologist had to spend way too much time debunking it.

@Noupside I think it is pretty clear that, if Musk is doing anything at all over there at Twitter, it is to construct pro-Musk narrative machinery - especially in terms of Tesla at the moment.

Public safety and industrial safety issues concerning Tesla will be mechanically suppressed.

I saw some "Community Notes" the other day about #FSDBeta safety that were obviously wrong and written by ardent Tesla supporters.

@Noupside This is a case in point of why I disagree with people when they say it’s All Fox News. It’s symbiotic: social media provides the perfect Petri dish to test develop and select the most toxic payload for prime time.
@Noupside Those who are ignorant of the principle of the science stopped being humble, as if ignorance would be a crime.
