Some observations as I watch Tokyo Ghoul :re. It seems to be way more fond of big combat sequences that the original.

This makes sense given how it’s much more of a story about the CCG. Still, it feels like every few episodes is a multi episode spanning large-scale operation.

Which also I think encourages the wild power creep. Not that I don’t think it fits the story. It’s a kind if escalation, an arms race between ghouls and doves, except both sides are pawns.

They really just jammed that ship in there, huh? Like, Touka/Kaneki had solid build up in the original series, but they gave almost no time to reestablish their relationship in :re.

Part of that is, I think, the sheer amount of story they skipped. They even had to “flashback” to scenes they never showed before, of Haise making eyes at Touka.

It feels rushed. This isn’t my ship though, so can someone who does ship it comment?

I assume they also skipped a lot with with the establishment of GOAT, bc like… otherwise I’m not sure why it seemed like a good idea?

We jumped right to “good job, now everyone’s dying.”

I’m also not a fan of the direction Tooru is being taken. Honestly, I’m uncomfortable with a lot of his story. And like, some of it could have been handled well, but it really isn’t. Or isn’t handled at all. Stuff happens to Tooru, and the plot moves on.

Okay no they *really* didn’t do a great job of establishing GOAT’s objectives and activities, given I actually mistook the Clowns for working with GOAT.

Now I have no idea what they’ve been doing…

Pfft, Nishiki’s response when he realized he gave away Touka’s pregnancy was priceless. As was Kaneki’s reaction when he figured out what he meant.
Massive OT3 (line relationship) vibes with the conversation between Hide and Touka about Kaneki.
