An exquisite nest built of spider web and leaf litter made by a Willie Wagtail that I saw at Sandy Camp Wetlands in Brisbane yesterday morning. #wildoz
@drnick Those are magnificent pictures. 💖
@drnick look at how mad he is to be in that little cup
@drnick grr I am in my nest grrrr
@jonny The crazy thing was that it had built its nest literally right next to a path in the wetlands where people regularly walk and take their dogs. I can only assume it really doesn't care about people. Wagtails are pretty ballsy.
@drnick @jonny I’ve seen these birds attack magpies, kookaburras, hawks and humans when they are nesting. They really don’t care how big you are 😀
@drnick Breathtaking photos!
@drnick That looks like a very cosy home.
@drnick Once she's done fledging her chicks she should totally airbnb that place. 5 stars, would rent.
@drnick That's a lovely looking nest. It always intrigues me how smooth and rounded nests are on the inside. Birds are so clever. (I'm not sure Masked lapwings can be included in that, seeing as they lay eggs in really weird places, sans nest).

@drnick

That's cool.
I thought it was an ancient clay pipe at first.

@drnick Nature recycles. No web goes to waste.
@drnick "OK, you got your pictures. Now go away!" 😁
@drnick That bird is a Master Builder.
@drnick that has to be some tough stuff. I’d hate to see the spiders we’d need to build our own silk structures but they’d be solid.
@drnick thank you Dr Nick, it’s precious 🥰 😊

@drnick

It looks like the bird is scowling at you for taking pictures 😆

@Cassandra Wagtails have a lot of attitude, but I don't think it was really bothered by me being there for a minute. It was actually right next to a path where people walk their dogs!
Hello @drnick Lovely photos! Over here on Nyoongar country one of the Nyoongar names for the Willie Wagtail is Djidi-Djidi - very like the sound they make when they are irate!
@leece Thank you. That is really interesting to know!
@drnick The colors in these photos are otherworldly and beautiful!
@drnick @lampjaded it looks so proud of itself!
“Fuck yeah, choice nest”
@drnick this is so cool!! never seen so much spiderweb in a neat before
@drnick this bird is an architecture senior student 🤓
