I know a little bit of #Welsh, and I'd like to know a little bit more, so every now and again I might post here yn #Cymraeg.

If you speak it, please engage with those posts, because it means I get to practise. If not, don't panic, I'll probably attach some images as well! That way there's something for you too. (This should also be useful for learners, who might infer the context from pictures.)

In your preferences, you can choose what languages you want to see in your timelines. If you leave them all blank, there'll be no language filtering at all. But if you select a language or two, you'll only see posts that are in those languages.

(Edit: It turns out this only applies in local and federated timelines, and doesn't apply to people that you follow. Every day is a school day, as they say!)

@SirEdav As it states above the checkboxes, this option applies to public timelines, meaning local and federated timelines. It therefore doesn't apply to your home timeline. :)
@Sven Aha. That kind of makes sense. If you follow somebody, you want to see their posts. Now I'm trying to work out whether it applies to followed hashtags / hashtag timelines.

@SirEdav

I'm going to follow you for these posts, because I moved to Wales a few months ago and have only picked up a few words so far.

Can't spell any of them... can't pronounce most of them properly.

Gotta look for some classes as the weather improves.

Tried google translate... it can't pronounce anything in Welsh, but at least I can check spellings.

@anomnomnomaly Great stuff. I'll follow you back! I grew up here in Wales but haven't used the language regularly since school, years and years ago. Everybody here speaks English, so (in my experience) it's easy to fall out of practice with the Welsh language if you're not actively looking to keep it up.
@SirEdav bore da, connor a blwyddyn newedd dda. sut dych chi buty?
@PixelBandits Bore da! Blwyddyn newydd dda i chi hefyd. Yn ôl i'r gwaith heddiw. Mae'r egwyl Nadolig wedi gorffen.
@SirEdav we have a lot of folks ready to engage, it'd be helpful to use the #ymarfer tag to let people know you're looking for feedback 👍
@jaz That's good to know. Diolch yn fawr!
