What’s left of my fall root veggie micro-garden after the big freeze down here in SE Texas last week. Tried to protect as best I could but it got all the way down to 16F & stayed below freezing for more than 24 hours. Most winters we barely get a light freeze or two and you can keep most plants alive. Some carrots apparently survived but the remaining radishes are gone and the onions are probably all done for as well.

@Trilobyter I feel your pain; the plants on my deck in New Orleans got wiped-out too. This happens about every five years.
@Trilobyter Yo know what works? Weave the old style xmas lights along the soil and all around the plants. It raises the ambient temo by 10°+ degrees. It really works? I also use this strategy to Get my seedlings in about a months earlier. Also, you can through a sheer of clear plastic loosely over The whole situation. Keep The faith!
@KarenStrickholm thanks that’s a great suggestion. I did put plant covers over the entire raised bed which maybe helped the carrots to survive but yeah it needed an active heating source too.
