29 Dec: the #Constitution of #Ireland came into force #OTD, approved by referendum (56.5%). Terms such as 'Taoiseach' & 'Tánaiste' were introduced.

The name of the State was Éire, or, in the English language, Ireland.

The 1937 #IrishConstitution incorporated thinking of its time on human dignity. It also (comparatively speaking) lacked the authoritarianism of contemporary constitutions.

As such, it is part of the history of the evolution of human rights.
