At first I disliked the term “toot” more than “fediverse” but now it’s opposite. It’s only a matter of time until I say “did you see that toot from xyz?!” out loud and without irony or air quotes or embarrassment. 😄 Fediverse, fedi-* though? I dunno. I propose “horizontal apps” instead. Surely we can come up with something better, although probably it’s already too late.. #webiverse
@mmayo “tweet” and “tweeting” sounded extremely silly in the early days of Twitter too. Now it’s part of everyday vocabulary...
@patrickv tweet was a new word. toot = poo gas. not sure it’s comparable. :)
@mmayo I’m fairly fluent in English, but I didn’t know that. I thought it came from the expression “tooting your horn” or so. I get now that it may not sound (or smell) so great to English audiences 😀
@patrickv it’s English so of course there are multiple unrelated meanings / uses for the word. 😂
