Facebook is removing vehicle and real estate listings from Facebook Pages.

Starting on Jan 30, 2023, you won't be able to sell a car or rent/sell a house on your own Facebook Page—you'll have to use Marketplace.

Anyone who believes Facebook replaces a website needs to wake up and smell the coffee!

Meta has no problem screwing over the small businesses that depend on them!

They certainly don't care about your brand or your web presence!

Frankly, Meta's line of "We are simply changing how to distribute inventory."

No, you're changing how small businesses build their web presence.

This is a bait and switch.

@atomicpoet Facebook stopped being my problem about a year ago. They have no qualms about selling body armor and tac gear to school shooters...
@toxtethogrady It's surveillance capitalism gone wrong.
@atomicpoet Incidentally, as long as surveillance is trending, the FBI could do us all a favor by making a database of everybody who's recently bought body armor or prepper MRE's off Facebook in the last two years, as I sense a correlation that predicts future events. We are likely to be reading their names in the newspaper before long...

@atomicpoet As a web application developer who's had the misfortune of integrating with various social media platforms (but specifically the big three of Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter), these services also won't hesitate to notice your innovative use of their APIs, literally clone your product down to the look and feel, then cut off the APIs you were using to bring the product in-house.

It's like a hostile takeover, but better! (Their EULA and TOS explicitly permit/warn of this.)

😡 LinkedIn

@alice It's time for devs to build for the Fediverse. Stop letting Big Social steal your innovations!

@atomicpoet Some of the innovations involve things such as firehose natural language analysis for detection of job offers, casual (help moving, renovation work, …) to more detailed (actual titled positions). Mastodon… doesn't really have a firehose, as such, making that type of bulk data analysis impossible.

On the LinkedIn side, "jobs at my friend's companies". Offer↔︎candidate match analysis with weighting based on capability to be introduced/referred by existing employees. A tale to that one.

@atomicpoet Ugh. Can't leave hanging like that.

It was a feature developed by the junior on my team. First "real" job. Worked brilliantly, looked wonderfully polished. We started noticing the error rate one day. It didn't take much digging to find the clone on the official site and realize what had happened. He… was somewhat crushed; that was a feature he had /owned/ and /delivered/ on.

@atomicpoet last point is certainly true and have a proven track record fucking with journos + publishing..

also FB UI is the worst.. so i really don't care. however—why? why would they continue to shoot themselves in the foot?

@atomicpoet the Market Place has too many flakes, both buyers and sellers. I was trying to get a Cricket Expression 1, I finally got one after dealing with 5 other sellers. Seller 6 happened to be fairly close to me and dropped it off. Then I tried to get a Silhouette Cameo 4 machine and after 1st attempt and they tried to scam me, I ended up just buying a new one.
@atomicpoet THIS is why I have my own website, hosted by #WordPress. My blog, my portfolio — it’s all mine, and I don’t have to worry about the whims of some huge tech company upending my #FreelanceEditing biz.
