What a year 2022 has been! We wanted to take a moment to thank all of our members for their continued support. There has never been a more important time to stand up for public health care and to work together for #BetterMedicare. Here’s a look back at what we did this year. 1/
We organized our first ever Health Policy Summit this fall, which brought together health professionals and experts from Canada and around the world to tackle the big questions facing public health care, including surgical backlogs and reimagining #LongTermCare. 2/
We relaunched our “Better Medicare” webinar series and discussed issues like elder care, health and climate change, health care access for those without status or insurance, and virtual care. You can find some of the recordings here:

One of our primary goals is to highlight the value and benefits of publicly-funded health care. To that end, we published a position paper on equitable access to Virtual Care (https://www.canadiandoctorsformedicare.ca/virtual_care) and a myth-busting primer on privatization (https://www.canadiandoctorsformedicare.ca/myth_privatization) 4/

We also engaged with our members through our Health Justice Book Club. Dr. Samir Shaheen-Hussain (@[email protected]) spoke w/ us about his book on medical colonialism against Indigenous children. 5/

We also talked to Desmond Cole (@[email protected]) about anti-Black racism in our institutions, including health care as well as his experiences as an activist and journalist. https://www.cbc.ca/firsthand/episodes/the-skin-were-in 6/
The Skin We're In

Acclaimed journalist Desmond Cole explores what it is to be black in 21st century Canada. Do black lives matter here?

As part of our commitment to push our advocacy efforts forward, we launched three member-driven working groups to tackle issues vital to Canadians including #PrimaryCare, long-term care, and wait times. 7/
For student and resident members, we brought our mentorship program back to pair them with health policy experts in order to develop lasting professional relationships and nurture the next generation of health advocates. 8/
We recently launched a national open-letter campaign calling on reforms necessary to strengthen our public health care system: #pharmacare, single-entry referrals, HHR planning, team-based primary care, and re-imagining home care. 9/
Lastly, we can’t forget the historic moment earlier this year when the BC Court of Appeal upheld the BC Supreme Court’s decision in Sept 2020 in the #Cambie case, reaffirming the strength and importance of our public health care system. https://www.savemedicare.ca/ 10/
