I really like the Macs+OSX platform and it has worked well for me for decades. At the same time, I can see that Apple laptops are headed towards a platform that I eventually won’t want to be on (closed/walled garden in the name of security, shorter hardware support cycle). Some folks (@pluralistic et al) have pointed me to @frameworkcomputer—seems great. Q: I don’t like Windows, but I live in an O365 world. Any tips for exploring #desktopLinux in that context? Thanks!

Popos is a layer on top of Ubuntu. Created by system 76 (as mentioned by others). It works well.

My wife has been using it for months (without knowing she is using it) on an older MacBook air. Citrix works well under Linux.

The two pain points in Linux are office apps and PDF files.

The following video may be use, in order to set up libreoffice to be as compatible with microsoft office.

I haven't yet found a great PDF annotation app. Okular works ok. That and PDF arranger together could be used to function as MacOS's preview app. I eventually broke down and installed windows version of foxit reader under wine. Not perfect but allows annotation in an easy format. (The Linux version of foxit does not permit annotation)
