Many years ago, as a mid-level assembler (!) dev, I learned a life lesson from a senior (old, grizzled, now dead) dev.
We were discussing some very dangerous code I was writing that would run in what amounts to kernel space from out of our product.
I asked, "What's the chance something bad will happen?"
He replied, "100%".
This has, unfortunately, guided me in all areas of my life ever since.
