#PeterAtkins just reminded me that it is the 34th anniversary of #Hellraiser2: Hellbound. So that’s what I’m watching now. After Dr. Channard hear’s Kristy’s story, he becomes obsessed with the #LamentConfiguration and brings the mattress home and lure’s a patient on to it. After cutting himself, the blood frees Julia from the land of #Cenobites. #horror #film #80s #cinemastodon #vhs
@Macabre_ish this is my favorite Hellraiser movie
@MarkCodesTheWeb Mine too! Even after all these years.
@Macabre_ish I always found something in #hellraiser profoundly disturbing... Moreso than other #horrormovies. Event Horizon is similarly disturbing. That has always surprised me.
@lime_juice_cube Oh I definitely agree. And for me, that is part of the intrigue. The horror of it is particularly disturbing and the fact that you can’t quite pin the reason why down, is part of it’s charm.
@Macabre_ish It's interesting. I've tried to nail it down. The only thing I can come up with is the specific combination of nihilism and pleasure in the torture of flesh using BDSM tropes as a vehicle. Event Horizon also portrays a hell dimension (think the tortured crew video scene - which has an interesting history in that movie). In both movies, it is as though these hell dimensions are all that await us. That's the best take I have so far.. Lol 😁 But by far, the French edition Martyrs movie is the gut punch I won't go back to.
@lime_juice_cube You may be right. Oh and yeah, I saw #Martyrs, that was tough and sad. Another flick that is horror like Hellraiser is #Necromentia. The first time I saw it I felt gross and confused. There is a lot of terrible in that movie. Lots of uniquely grotesque imagery and scenes.
@Macabre_ish
This one and the original are my facourites of the whole saga.
