@b_fung These numbers seem both very low and suspect. Do they count just one instance? Aggregate numbers, which are necessarily estimates, that I've seen show total Mastodon usage over 8M with spurts whenever the other site does something dumb, but an overall large rise in usage.

@b_fung @jessdkant it would be awesome if tech writers would add a sentence to their stories indicating that it will be interesting to see if Twitter users adapt to the very different structure of Masto. Also, some reminder that volunteer, privately own instances are swallowing that growth because there is no such thing as ‘centralized’ infrastructure. It’s really the under-written story in all this growth.
