Conscious Style Guide
@karenyin I'm def interested in the first one. At my job, we tend to write "those with vision impairment" in accessibility guidelines. Maybe that's not the best way.
@karenyin So interesting, the thoughts on "diabetic". Every couple months someone pings my workplace style guide to recommend against using "see" in cross-reference language because it's rude to or excluding of people with low or no vision, and we keep citing our own employees with visual impairments who say no, for god's sake, just use "see," we get what it means, don't make it more convoluted! #goodintentions

@karenyin

💯 agree with PFL v IFL article.

For me, it stems from framing the world in the context of the social model of disability vs the medical model. I think the world is a little bit kinder when we see the world that way round.

Note to self: remember to share news about @karenyin ‘s #ConsciousStyleGuide newsletter with my #editing and #TechWriting friends because it has links to good articles with important talking points. Find the link in the message that I am replying to with this toot. #TechComm #TechComms
