Give a man a fish, and he’ll eat for a day.
Teach a man to fish, and he’ll eat for a lifetime.
Teach a man to be a fish biologist, and he’ll have an increasingly difficult relationship with eating fish, as he navigates the difficulties of a complex conservation landscape, attempting to avoid, not only starvation, but the over-exploitation of sensitive populations and the harmful health effects of the likes of PCB, PFAs, and mercury pollution.
@ridge science finding a deeper truth in an old proverb, very nice
@ridge - definitely agree. by any chance have you ever read or listen to any of Paul Greenberg's stuff?
@zcn I have read “Four Fish”! I thought it was very written and think of it daily. Definitely need to read more though!
@ridge Yeah the follow-up "American Catch" was insightful and also his podcast "Fish Talk" was solid. I really enjoyed the podcast because it seems to dive into topics and fisheries that don't get much outside attention - episodes 2 & 5 were my favs.
@zcn I’ll keep those in mind! Definitely been trying to get more into podcast. That’ll help start me out.
@ridge I'm in the same boat, let me know if you have any recs.
