"You need to suffer to produce #art" is capitalist gaslighting.
Existential dread doesn't make you feel inspired - feeling somewhat secure, appreciated and well does.

@usako Can you redeem or heal from some aspects of personal suffering by turning it into art? Definitely. Can great art come out of suffering? Of course, especially if one uses the experience of suffering to deepen one’s empathy.

Should you *have* to suffer? Is it *good* to suffer? Absolutely fucking not.

@dynamicsymmetry @usako *nodds in agreement*

Pretty shure Picasso would've prefered to not have suffered PTSD as survivor of the Guernica bombing regardless if that means he'd not make the same-named drawing.

@dynamicsymmetry No, that's not how empathy nor creativity work.
Artists that suffer(ed) can create art DESPITE of it, not because of it.

Suffering can cause and/or prolong art blocks, does affect mental and/or physical health.

There's LESS art in the world because of suffering and poverty, because what happens to many that "don't make it"? Some leave the arts and try sth else, probably fail. Others are... dead.

That reminds me of the toxic #TransMed / #Truscum bubble that deny peoples' Transness if they don't suffer (suicidal) dysphoria.

@kkarhan yes... (try to) fit the capitalistic and patriarchal norm, or else
