Of all the hashtags I’ve included in introduction, the most important one I left out was music. It is crucial to my coping and context in the world. I deeply love and admire almost every form of music, and live performance fires my soul.

Last night, had the privilege to see Bela Fleck for the third time, here at the tiny Mountain Stage Radio Show in West Virginia. This time he featured a reformed My Bluegrass Heart with some old faces, and some new.

These individuals are at the top of their respective areas, it was clear. I was particularly floored by Michael Cleveland on fiddle, his precision and tone is unreal.

Seeing a taut, expert bluegrass group play rivals the best improv jazz session, and this was a delight. Bela is supernatural in person.

@drewhealthdata so many greats on that stage  Michael Cleveland is so ridiculously good he doesn't even seem real. And Bryan Sutton. What a lineup. Wish I could've seen that!

@cmonster @drewhealthdata WOW! THAT IS A LINEUP!

If you think Michael Cleveland is from another planet, you are in for a big shock when you hear him knock ten bells out of a guitar and then eleven bells from the mandolin. He is one of those rare musicians who does nothing by the book. Just look at his bow grip and weep.

@EggKnees @cmonster well, I will now! Thank you!
@cmonster I was so struck by Sutton, so summarily professional. Always cool, never rattled, big time team player.
@drewhealthdata we saw the "all old" lineup (w/Sam Bush) of MBGH about a year ago...a remarkable performance as always from the old Telluride gang
@mrcompletely Bela is going to leave a mind blowing legacy, we are already seeing it. Amazing when you can bring up not only your peers and students, but your mentors along for a ride too!
@drewhealthdata bluegrass is like jazz in that being the best player carries a lot of weight. Even when Tony Rice was the social center and leader of that scene, Bela was the most advanced musician around, the guy that always had a lick to top em all. Now he's the elder statesman and mentor. Getting the Bela nod of approval means everything in this world now and rightly so. The MBGH album and tours have cemented that with the current generation like Sierra. His legacy is immense.
