No despot ever has a vote whose outcome they don't know ahead of time.
I believe Musk wants to resign. It's not fun anymore. He wants to go back to Tesla and SpaceX which are having successes instead of Twitter where he's having an unending stream of failures.
@ErrataRob "Elonbrain vs. The Hivemind" has not been pretty
@ErrataRob Resigning won't stop the hemorrhaging of money at Twitter though. Also, would the next CEO really be in charge? What if they determined that the changes Twitter needs to right itself run in the face of everything Elon's been saying and doing?

@ErrataRob I think Musk just wants a future patsy, frankly - if Musk even goes so far as to honor this “poll”.

Musk will still exert direct control of Twitter while someone else gets the blame. I believe that, if anything, will be the new strategy that Musk tries. Twitter will cycle through CEOs.

Musk abhors criticism from the media and any “enemies” on Twitter which are largely imagined. The impulsiveness of Musk cannot ignore that at any time.

@ErrataRob
I agree, and assume he/someone had the bots ready to vote him out. However, I also think he's going to be unpleasantly surprised how long lasting the damage to his brand is. There will be more boos in his future. Tesla stock will likely never recover (or even maintain it's current price).
@ErrataRob *inserts an animated GIF of a cat getting bored of playing with a dead bird*
@ErrataRob How much has brand erosion and share price effected him?
Musk's damaged brand

It hurts that Musk is so clueless about brand. He's got much to learn from Jobs.

The Misinfo Hellscape
@ErrataRob His skill set didn’t transfer. No 1 wants 2 discuss it but his unmanaged bipolar disorder & Asperger’s are real barriers 2 grasping & managing a “social” media platform which requires an ability 2 understand & balance the needs of a diverse user base w competing interests & needs. It’s unfortunate his ppl didn’t help him either get out of the purchase or immediately appoint a publicly apolitical pro & a committee of seasoned pros to craft & manage healthy mod policy.
@ErrataRob my personal opinion is that musk never actually wanted to buy twitter and was just trying to increment the shares value in a pump and dump scheme like he has already done in the past, but failed and was forced to buy
@fuomag9 There's good reason to believe he regrets his decision.
@ErrataRob life is much easier in that geopolitical aligned and federally subsidized world. Though Tesla is now struggling with legitimate EV competition from many players..
@ErrataRob This is ridiculous. What are we, 7 years old or something?
@ErrataRob optimistically, maybe he's looking for a face saving way out?
@ErrataRob can you imagine being one of the suckers who loaned him money to do this? It's like loaning money to Donald Trump, you know you're never seeing it again.
@chetwisniewski I suspect it's worth it to them to buy influence. I suspect they are still shocked about how little influence they got and the how much it effectively cost them.
@ErrataRob
Could he be testing to see how many enemies he still had to eliminate?
@ErrataRob Sometimes despots think they REALLY ARE beloved by the people.

“Just overheard Elon Musk discussing investment opportunities from the Amir of Qatar @TamimBinHamad & other Saudi Royals for his businesses, specifically Twitter,but from their body language & diplomatic response, it didn’t seem very positive. They asked him to find a suitable CEO”

Twitter
@ErrataRob he might just hire some bots to vote for him to stay
