What are some key distinctions in the literature on (and practice of) instructional design that teachers should know about? For example, “inquiry-based” vs “direct instruction”, “student-centered” vs “teacher-centered”, etc… what else?

@SBMost maybe things like formative vs. summative assessment, passive vs. active vs. collaborative learning (and the ICAP Framework), online/hybrid/face-to-face, synchronous vs. asynchronous, higher-order thinking vs. memorization (and Bloom's taxononomy), alignment, learning objectives vs. outcomes, backward design, metacognition, social-emotional learning, growth vs. fixed mindset, etc.
@dougholton Thanks! I just recently learned about Bloom's taxonomy... I thought it was very interesting!

I've been putting together a list of pedagogical techniques; so many have developed over the last century. There's more to add here, of course

@tdrummon This is great! Thank you!

Also important to learn about Bloom's taxonomy, but understand the way that it has been misused by people selling learning packages. I spent a couple of years looking up the articles, research. We can summarize it as "The good, the bad, and the ugly" LOL

Instead of that traditional pyramid, there's some useful alternative ideas and graphics here
