I tried #EWOT for #longcovid and #mecfs properly for the first time today.

It's very unglamorous but maybe I'll take pics another time. Basically, it's like this video, except I use a recumbent exercise bike (because I have #POTS):

I'm impressed by the first impression! I will keep folks posted, but I feel energised and less pain after.

I used equipment ordered from corpusair.nl (€700 +€24 P&P to DE) plus a refurbished oxygen concentrator from oxycare.eu (€235) .

@rose Didn't your #POTS symptoms improve with the antibiotic? Did you build the setup at home? A few unglamorous pictures would be cool. 😁

@corrosivedream Yeah antibiotic got me over the hump. But healing is a slow process and oxygen is helping even more. This is probably helping me rebuild those broken capillaries a lot faster than without it. It also brings down inflammation faster... Most illnesses have a link to hypoxia in the tissues. Long covid very much so. So this combo with naturally produced CO2 (through exercise) is pretty powerful.

I'm well into self-experimentation. 😂 Curcumin helps lots, too!

@corrosivedream re: Pics, in a couple of weeks perhaps. My skin got bad after I went off doxy - lack of fungal resistance originally hidden cos doxy generally strengthens collagen and the skin barrier. Oxygen has got me over that hump, too, but still want to wait a little before taking pics.

I also cut my hair when on a migraine. 🙈

@rose Sorry, I didn't mean to ask you to present yourself in a way that made you uncomfortable. I am very interested in the #EWOT attempt though. I really hope it helps you!
Do you get the oxygen from the doctor or do you buy it on your own?
@corrosivedream The oxygen is not prescribed (this use, despite studies, would come under alternative therapies. The oxygen concentrator is a one-time cost of €215 (at current prices), then you have unlimited oxygen (provided you have electricity - and you should ventilate).
@rose This is interesting. I had assumed that you would have to buy additional oxygen cylinders. But if that's not necessary at all, I might give that a try.

@corrosivedream No, that's what the oxygen concentrator does.

What is right for you will depend what state you are in. I would recommend checking first you have no lung damage (beyond general low capacity, reduced functionality etc.) - this is wise for safety.

I would also recommend starting with simple supplementation directly on the machine, set at 2 l for 20 mins 2x a day as per Dr Chopra's recommendation for Ehlers Danlos (https://soundcloud.com/user-676536371/dr-pradeep-chopra-pots-mcas-and-more) OR 5 l for 30mins 2x per day as per...

@corrosivedream a French Ehlers Danlos study (in progress). BUT what I actually did was 5 l, 30 mins, once a day until I switched to EWOT, because it really is pretty powerful.

You don't exercise when just supplementing. Just sit there.

It will make you sleepy at first. But sleep will help! You'll also get weird pulsating around old injuries (sometimes VERY old injuries) and weak circulation points as your body does work on them. That happens more at night.

@corrosivedream Then after a few weeks of that you could move on to EWOT if you feel able. In my case, jumping straight to EWOT would have been too much, even with the doxycycline healing. But other long covid patients go strsight to EWOT. I'd been ill for a long time and also have POTS so these may be factors.

By moving on to EWOT, I mean at first you can do what I call baby EWOT - same equipment, just use an exercise bike or similar while on it for up to 15 minutes. I could only manage 10.

@corrosivedream And then use supplemental oxygen still while your heart rate is coming down. This will increase your perfusion index (blood flow) in your fingers. Your fingers will generally feel warmer after. You will feel a bit less tired than you normally would and be able to perform more. But with full EWOT, if you want to invest money in the kit and time in filling up the bag each time, it's even better, even more effective, and you just don't feel tired in your muscles or lungs after.
@corrosivedream There's a lot about the science in various studies. Hyperoxic training is a keyword. Most of the stuff relating to HBOT applies to EWOT, too, except you won't freak out your doctors with EWOT because there's no risk to your ear drums (tinnitus and other pressure-related risks), and no risk of oxygen toxicity due to exercise producing CO2. HBOT isn't really safe in Ehlers Danlos and given how many with long covid are developing hypermobility even when they didn't have it before...
@corrosivedream I think HBOT is a bit too risky for all but the most desperate, bedbound long covid patients. That's the plus, that you don't require any strength at all for HBOT. Also helps more with oxygenation of open wounds. But anyone able to exercise a bit will find EWOT more effective, since the presence of CO2 through exercise will train your lungs much better and get oxygen pushed around your body more actively, more naturally.
HBOT kits are patented, hence more research investment. 💰
