What space TTRPGs are you playing? Which ones do you recommend? Why?

@ChaskaTheMagicDog I'm playing in a DnD homebrew setting that a friend is running. Ground combat works well, but space combat gets to be a little tricky the more realistic it gets. I think at some point you pretty much have to theater of the mind ship to ship combat, just because of the dimensionality and the distances involved. There might be systems that are better suited then DnD (maybe GURPS) but it's the easiest to pick up and run with because of it's simplicity.
@ChaskaTheMagicDog I’m using #StarsWithoutNumberRevised and just backed #Space1889After. #SWN is a version of old-school basic with some old-school #Traveller and Psionics bolted on and and a barely outlined universe that has a really interesting psionic/ftl tie-in.

@ChaskaTheMagicDog I am currently learning the ropes on Star Wars 5e. There are a lot of interesting options in it, clearly some folks have poured a lot of effort into it.

Good: wide variety of species/classes/features. Plus the whole Star Wars vibe if you are a fan. Being based on D&D 5e also makes it easier to transition for folks familiar with that.

However, I do find there may be too many options. Roleplaying takes backseat to mechanics sometimes, and combat can be tricky to pick up.

@ChaskaTheMagicDog I've had loose plans to run Classic Traveller for a year now, but still haven't gotten around to it. It's always looked fun and kind of lightweight compared to the newer (much larger) rulebooks.
@ChaskaTheMagicDog I'm currently running a #DeathinSpace campaign and am a player in another one. It's run-down space truckers, like Alien before they encounter the xenomorph or a bit of Firefly, high weirdness, low horror, low violence. Very smooth rules, beautiful book. Like it a lot.
@ChaskaTheMagicDog Traveller (Mongoose 2nd Edition) here. It’s a great system, quite modular to learn and teach, and I appreciate the new edition.
@ChaskaTheMagicDog Scum and Villainy is pretty cool, if you like pbta/blades in the dark style games
