So I understand that the bird site has started blocking links to common/known Mastodon instances, and that doesn't seem like free speech to me. So... I did a thing.

If you go to https://spacekaren.sucks it is now a URL shortener that blocks the twitter user agent. That means you can share that link that will redirect to your Mastodon account without the pouty baby stopping you. If you find this helpful can you boost so others can find it? #TwitterMigration #Mastodon #Musk #introduction

@lamp I didn't find this to be true - Twitter follows the redirect if it can, and if the ultimate destination is a blocked URL, it won't allow you to post it. My personal instance wasn't blocked, but URLs landing at popular instances were definitely blocked through popular URL shorteners.

@jordan I don't know why but when I tried to use this in Chrome on Windows 10, the output URL was CAPITALIZED and this made it not work right. Removing the caps fixed it

@danimrich I believe that all you need to do is add a + after the URL and it will show the stats rather than redirect.

@jordan Uh, yes, I would second to remove any non-essential data collection, at least after a debugging period. Then you don't have to protect the data and don't have to inform about personal data that gets collected and and and... 😉

@roland @danimrich I'm not collecting any sensitive info - not intentionally at least. The only logging I have on is Apache standard logging which resolves to an IP address. I don't have cookies beyond session data (so it delivers the correct URL to your request) and I don't require login. I don't know anything beyond a user's IP address, which I'm completely okay with users obfuscating via vpn if they are concerned about identity. I'm not doing this to collect data.

@jordan Thanks. I had the link to my Mastodon profile on my profile there but I removed it because I was afraid he would ban people who did that. Supposedly one of the journalists he banned did not dox him. He was promoting Mastodon over there.
