When picking a #wine, what goes through your mind? Do you already know what you like? Are you an explorer? Any grapes you prefer? You look a the description? What about the label? #winelover #winetasting #winegeek I like to research first the area and grape I want to try and then I let my gut feeling picking the label that catches my attention.
@micchega
Lately I have been listening to more wine and cooking podcasts and I have decided to host more dinners. So with what I hear and read, including in The Wine Bible, I try to come up with a menu (pairing) that will delight my guests and myself.
For Thanksgiving I took advice from Wine for Normal People and bought an off-dry Riesling from Mosel Germany. Just a well reviewed one from Total Wines.
It turned out well.
@zimfam I listen to #winefornormalpeople too! Just joined their Patron now. I like how accessible that content is, it doesn’t make me feel out of depth. I never tried Campi Flegrei but I did spot it on the wine bible map and I’m intrigued. As far as I know that area has fumarole thus stink of sulfur. I wonder how that affects the #wine flavour. Going to Italy back home for Xmas now, planning to try #Ormeasco, #Rossese di Dolceacqua and #Timorasso from #CollineTortonesi.
@micchega @zimfam Timorasso can be a revelation
@AlexGBardsley @zimfam a friend who lives in #Tortona area recommended #LaColombera. I’m planning for a visit there. Another friend is involved in wine production in the #AcquiTerme area and I’d love to see their wine too at some point.
@micchega You reminded me of the fumarole we drove past while coming and going. My aunt said it was a legendary gate to the underworld.
Thanks for the revived memory and for the other suggestions!
@zimfam yeah I think I remember something from school regarding the entrance to the Hades in Greek and Roman #mythology being in that area but don't quote me on it, unsure.
