Okay tomorrow i think I’m finally migrating this account to a different instance

Folks have asked—spore.social, the federated instance of project mushroom :)

I twitter-know a few of the leaders of the effort and trust their ethics and commitment, and the moderators are paid :)

@Cricketcrocker I've been wanting to do the same. Do you think you could walk me through it when you're done? I'm scared I'll accidentally mess it up and delete everything
@gwensnyder I would be so happy to do that :)
@serenebabe has migrated an account already and has offered help, might be willing to share her experience more widely, too!
@Cricketcrocker @gwensnyder I’m not an expert but I’m totally happy to help if I can. you will lose your posts, but not your followers. getting who you follow back is a little trickier but also kind of easy…? here’s the link to how-to I used. in #2 they mean “create a new account with the username you want on the new instance and be sure you are logged in there.”

An unofficial guide to using Mastodon and the Fediverse

@Cricketcrocker @serenebabe @gwensnyder oof. and be careful where you land, i’m running a Pleroma server (compatible, lower overhead) and it doesn’t seem to have _move from_ implemented or the common export functions from Mastodon instances.

if i have to, i’ll code it.
@ottoflux this is one of my favorite things about tech stuff. It’s like you’re speaking a language I don’t know, but from the context, I kind of understand what you mean!
@serenebabe haha. i try to address things plainly so that it makes sense but it’s hard sometimes. basically mastodon does a good job of letting you move your account (only _followers_ come along automatically), it seems pleroma (what i’m running at thingr.us and indytelegraph.com) is less conducive to that currently from what i’m seeing.
thingr.us

@ottoflux I think it did make sense, even though part of it I didn’t understand! I realize you’re talking about stuff under the hood. :-)

@gwensnyder step 1 appears to be apply to join spore.
You have to wait to be approved, which is fine. After that I’m going to do the migration.
I was able to create an alias at spore for migration purposes but like you I’m concerned if I migrate before I’m officially approved then everything will explode.

So now we wait.

@Cricketcrocker I've been a bit out of the loop. I am on PM and supported the kickstarter. I like it, though there aren't many Australians there yet.

Is spore just a public-facing PM? And does that mean that PM has decided not to federate? Or is there more to it?

@Cricketcrocker I did it with my dad’s account and it was super easy. I don’t know how helpful I could be, but if you have any questions, I’m happy to try to help!
