Initially I used a tool that scraped my Twitter connections (I think I used debirdify, but there are a couple of similar tools)

Then I spent a weekend morning looking over the follower lists of this initial group

Over time I've organically found more of my network via boosts and by following hashtags.

(BTW I recommend to follow a few hashtags, it helps since there's no recommendation algorithm here)

@adamauton movetodon.org makes it pretty easy. The key is that your Twitter contacts have to have put their mastodon handle somewhere in their Twitter profile. (Go do that if you haven’t!)
