Elon gave me no warning.... plus he suspended all of my accounts, half of which track aircraft (NASA aircraft, experimental aircraft, weather, airforce etc). not people including my personal
@JxckS and to justify it, they changed the rules in such a way that it's now against TOS to livetweet about the World Cup

Feminist Proper Gander (@dappergander@journa.host)

Attached: 1 image Twitter has now updated its TOS to support the banning of accounts like elonjet by making it against the rules to reveal someone's "actual physical location, or other identifying information that would reveal a person's location". It is now against TOS to tweet about a live press conference in the Rose Garden.

Mastodon

@dappergander @JxckS This is incorrect. It wouldn’t be violating the policy because it “contains eyewitness accounts or on the ground reports from developing events” and the players are public figures.

@JxckS @ifvictr @dappergander so tracking Elons jet isn’t against the terms of service… clear as mud!
@ifvictr @dappergander @JxckS That says "For media" though. If it's text that wouldn't apply apparently. And if it did then the Elon Jet account wouldn't be in violation because Musk is a public figure.
@dappergander @JxckS @kcivey @ifvictr But how (and who) is defining media? The government’s inability to do so is part of our right to freedom the press.
@goobermunch @dappergander @JxckS @ifvictr I don't think "media" there means press. From context it appears to be media in the sense of photos, video, etc. But one bullet point uses the word "media" in both senses.
@kcivey @goobermunch @dappergander @JxckS @ifvictr hmmm, text is a medium too...
@nyates314 @goobermunch @dappergander @JxckS @ifvictr True, but that's yet another usage of "media" (as plural of "medium"). That doesn't seem to be the meaning here. Of course theres not much sense in spending time interpreting it, since the rules will probably change again within hours.
@goobermunch @dappergander @JxckS @kcivey @ifvictr and hasn't Elon been touting the ability of the average Twitter user to provide citizen journalism as a death knell to big media. So all Twitter users are journalists by that definition.

@kcivey @ifvictr @dappergander @JxckS They took the rules out of context and cropped out additional terms above it.

This whole rule change/addition is absolutely absurd and why I'm going to use Mastodon more often now. Bird app don't consider a "name" to be private information... really? It's the first example of private info on a number of sites.

@MelloProto @kcivey @ifvictr @dappergander @JxckS
Elon's jet is always located at "commercial property' (airports) and airspace is mostly not private.
@Teufelwolf666 @kcivey @ifvictr @dappergander @JxckS imo, the ElonJet Twitter profile wasn't even violating the new terms of service. Elon may not necessarily be on the jet, it's public information, and the account wasn't posting the info with the intent to make anyone else harass or anything.
@MelloProto @kcivey @ifvictr @dappergander @JxckS yeah that is why I said jack should look at the Uhruh Civil Right Act. Musk is clearly engaged in arbitrary discrimination

@MelloProto @Teufelwolf666 @kcivey @ifvictr @dappergander @JxckS

The jet also has a cruising speed of 956 km/h so how would he be posting "live" location data? By the time it was reported by the twitter account the jet would've travelled a significant distance, unless it was stationary and if it was stationary Musk wouldn't be on it?

@graphite_notes @Teufelwolf666 @kcivey @ifvictr @dappergander @JxckS Yeah and even after landing, there must be a way to have security so that you’re safe, from leaving the plane to traveling in a car. Do we even know if the guy used the info on the Twitter account to stalk Elon? Removing the account doesn’t solve the problem. People can just use the tracking site, anyway.

@MelloProto @Teufelwolf666 @kcivey @ifvictr @dappergander @JxckS

IMO it's a totally disingenuous argument by Musk and his sycophants that the car incident is in any way relevant to stopping the plane tracking. I even saw 1 go as far as claiming that the 2A justifies it because he's protecting himself

These people aren't all there

@graphite_notes @MelloProto @Teufelwolf666 @kcivey @dappergander @JxckS It’d make more sense if there’s confirmation the guy found the car because he knew when and where to intercept Elon when he landed (both of which the bot gave info for)

@ifvictr @MelloProto @Teufelwolf666 @kcivey @dappergander @JxckS I don't think Musk was even in the car, he said the guy was following the car with his kid in "thinking it was [him]"

So don't report on where (person A) is in case someone follows (person B)?

@graphite_notes Wait, it’s not clear what you’re trying to say in the second paragraph. Mind clarifying?
@ifvictr the guy didn't give info on where and when to intercept Musk, because it wasn't Musk he intercepted

@MelloProto Disagree, I think the removal will be effective in reducing overall reach! This bot was a facilitator, after all.

A lot of people didn’t know this data was public until the account became popular. Crazies who had an urge to go after Elon could simply follow, or even have updates pushed onto their timeline with _no input_ from them. Without this, the friction of piecing together data from aircraft database + plane # + air traffic would be enough to dampen the prospect for most.

@MelloProto @kcivey @ifvictr @dappergander @JxckS I'm sorry, it's not okay to post publicly available information about Musk's plane, but it's okay to post where a non-famous marginalized person works and their full name and birthdate? that's literally doxxing! if someone can easily use information to find someone and commit a fucken hate crime that is doxxing!
Also if someone posted my school (aka my location), full name, and birthdate, ppl could literally pick up my prescriptions
@MelloProto I was addressing @dappergander’s reply, not the main one. People will still be able to live-tweet the World Cup because of what it says in the screenshot I shared!
@MelloProto @kcivey @ifvictr @dappergander @JxckS More importantly the FTC includes name in the list of personal information that Twitter has to protect and notify users if they're going to share it.

@MelloProto @kcivey @ifvictr @dappergander @JxckS

I'd like to know why it's explicitly okay to post "gossip, rumours, accusations and allegations". It sounds like he's carving out a space for on-line harassment, in addition to doxxing.

@JohnMarsh @kcivey @ifvictr @dappergander @JxckS That line in the terms really bothers me. It may have actually been the one that made me commit to Mastodon.

@ifvictr @dappergander @JxckS

It's a little unclear, but that only applies if this is from "media," so I think it would still violate policy.

@ifvictr @dappergander @JxckS

But this would be covered under the first dot point, publicly available media.

@ifvictr @dappergander @JxckS “For media,” which we know Musk will define as people like Amos Yee, Andy Ngo, and Alex Jones… but not people like Dan Rather.
@ifvictr @dappergander @JxckS By these criteria, posting Elon’s jet’s location should also be ok.
@ifvictr @dappergander @JxckS actually it meets every one of those points.

@ifvictr @dappergander @JxckS

I’m sure it wouldn’t last long, but an account that’s just screen caps from a PC on the tracking page would be funny

@ifvictr @dappergander @JxckS
Doesn't even a public person deserve some privacy? It wouldn't get half that publicity if people had to crawl adsb themselves and even that is already a privacy violation to have your flights publicly recorded and visible for eternity.
What if I published all your travels that you do every day? Just because he is a public person and a very evil one that doesn't mean doxxing is appropriate

@ifvictr @dappergander @JxckS The entire point is to have two broad, contradicting rules so twitter can selectively enforce whichever one suits elon's agenda.

Some nazi shitting his pants in public? picture of a private individual, banned

A drag queen dining at a restaurant? public interest, not doxxing, permitted

@ifvictr @dappergander @JxckS LOL so basically you can't live Tweet news as it happens. This will kill Twitter.
@vavamk2 @dappergander @JxckS Did you even read the screenshot? There’s an exception for eyewitness and on the ground reports.

@ifvictr @dappergander @JxckS

Melon is a public figure and his movements are of public interest. It's silly to try and argue otherwise.

@dappergander @JxckS that makes any picture illegal on which you can see a couple of buildings in the background... Am I allowed to dox myself?
@dappergander @JxckS Rule #1: If Elon doesn’t like@ something, it’s a violation.
@JxckS he's such a baby whiner
@JxckS so here he says, if you delay, say, 15 minutes, he has no problem anymore?
@Jvolby @JxckS don’t believe it for a second.
@Jvolby @JxckS 5 seconds... that's not live

@rik @Jvolby @JxckS

By the time the aircraft has sent it's location, the various ground trackers have forwarded said location to the website, and then the bot eventually reports on the location, it would be out of date. He doesn't even need to add in a delay imo

@breenzy @rik @Jvolby @JxckS No delay in ADSB data exchange website..
You can even prove this by having ADSBexchange and ATCLive sites open. Open up a busy airport like KATL and the audio and visual matches just about in milliseconds. Open up a tower or ground frequency for easy reference. When tower issues line up and wait instruction, the visual representation is right on queue with the ATC instructions.
@Jvolby @JxckS 24h+. Is he going to buy the FAA/other public records/flight records entities?
@Jvolby @JxckS 24 hours was the last rule.
@Teufelwolf666 @Jvolby @JxckS and I'm sure if someone made the same bot with a 24 hr delay, he would find a way to ban them too
@raphaelmorgan @Jvolby @JxckS I wonder what it costs to rent a twitter bot farm.
@JxckS only the most committed bootlicker could deny that's a bad faith ex post facto explanation from Elon
@JxckS It's all personal with him. Did he get all of them?
@JxckS i am SHOCKED that Musk is pulling "policy" out of thin air to justify all of his vendettas!
@kkeller @JxckS sounds like Donald Trump, doesn't it?
@Agora @JxckS have you ever seen Trump and Musk in the same room together?!??!!?
@kkeller @Agora @JxckS have you seen dumb and dumber, you can assign the rolls.
