@TYLRDGTL@jpanzer@JxckS@piccolbo But you've barely posted anything here – if you make more posts, especially an introduction and some hashtags with interests, people will find you and follow.
You get out of Mastodon what you put in.. There is no algorithm that'll surface you, so if you're not interesting enough to get boosted, or hit the relevant tags.. No one will find you..
@karbowiak@TYLRDGTL@jpanzer@JxckS The entries in the explore tab are algorithmically selected AFAIK, but your home is in reverse chronological order, unlike twitter by default.
@TYLRDGTL@jpanzer@JxckS@piccolbo Not my experience at all; I've gotten more engagement on Mastodon than I ever got on Twitter, more interaction with fewer people. 50 followers isn't huge, but I was a Twitter nobody (didn't use the account much). Surprising that you had 0 followers after three weeks.
@not2b@jpanzer@JxckS@piccolbo He also isn't following many people. He follows 1000 on insta. You have to interact to get followers. He just expects them to follow with no discussion, 29 posts. Or he could tell his followers where he's at. Long name is just one click #NotThatHard#WorkIt
@TYLRDGTL@piccolbo@JxckS But Andressen put up $400 million to help Musk buy Twitter. Post's plan is to do micropayments for news. If it works, soon its owners will have a chokehold on a significant income stream for journalism. It's a threat. Stay away.
@piccolbo@JxckS Is that the main draw of Mastodon to you? The built-in data insurance of server decentralization? Still trying to figure this platform out. Kinda feels like Twitter and Discord had a bastard child
@TYLRDGTL@piccolbo@JxckS You only follow 26 people. On #Mastodon YOU are the algorithm. Show yourself what you want to see thru others eyes. Use #hashtags so they can see you. Non hashed words aren’t searchable. #Film
@TYLRDGTL@JxckS I am not too worried about the permanence of my data. What I like is the transparency (algorithms are on github) and the decentralization (if one server treats you poorly, you can move, with some pain, to another one).
@piccolbo@TYLRDGTL@JxckS Came to say just that. Post even has (or had) a bit about not being mean to billionaires in its rules. There is plenty of reach on #Mastodon
@Pineywoozle@piccolbo@JxckS It doesn’t matter how mean I am to billionaires if the reach is borderline non-existent. Thanks for engaging though. I gave you a follow
@TYLRDGTL@piccolbo@JxckS If you’re mean to billionaires Post reserves the right to boot you. For that... There are accounts getting tons of reach here & #Mastodon just developed a news link. That alone will make a huge difference.
@Pineywoozle@piccolbo@JxckS In all sincerity, the lack of engagement on your recent post with your baby chicken wearing a sweater vest tells me this app has major algorithm flaws. It explains a lot because that pic is awesome ❤️
@TYLRDGTL@piccolbo@JxckS You’re wrong. That’s just how #Mastodon works. Excessive ones that are meaningless? Probably not, but specific ones or humorous ones yes they are and always have. Sorry that’s how this place operates. There is specifically the ability to follow a # like you would a person. Some follow #News some follow #Knitting etc.
@Pineywoozle@TYLRDGTL@piccolbo@JxckS Based on my experience, just about any author is a heck of a lot better at identifying what's # important about their post than recent black-box SEO. Have you used Google Search lately for anything nontrivial?
