How Elon botched his war on bots

PLUS: Why it's time to start leaving Twitter behind

Platformer
@taylorlorenz just absolutely fucking bonkers.
@taylorlorenz Nothing like a tectonic shift...

@taylorlorenz it starts strong and then, halfway in, they pull out the stops and go full bore. Now THAT is journalism.

Also, love how much reluctance he still feels toward Mastodon.

@sb @taylorlorenz But he's joining post.news.
From trusting Dorsey to trusting Andreessen. Fool me twice ...
@taylorlorenz best news in that article is that we can @ @caseynewton on this here site now. Welcome Casey!
@taylorlorenz Reading this, it just occurred to me that Twitter, among other aspects, has a Mad Libs quality. And I found out once when working with 9-year-olds that those with Asperger's or autism spectrum were unable to understand the point of Mad Libs, let alone understand that it is funny. I am no fan of Elon Musk but he is neurodivergent. He doesn't understand the very thing he dearly bought: the impersonators, the Bronx Zoo Cobra, Karl the Fog, a certain Icelandic volcano - all the fun and ventriloquism that is not mean or bad just comical, yet incomprehensible to someone like Musk.
@irizoris @taylorlorenz I am mostly in agreement with you, but I think it’s subtly worse. I think he kind of senses the humour and wants to be a part of it but is deeply unequipped to do so.
@taylorlorenz I’m continually shocked at how dumb Elon is. True Emperor’s New Clothes moment.
@taylorlorenz "On Friday, Musk sent an email to Twitter employees threatening to sue people who leak confidential information to the press, Platformer was the first to report." 🤣
@taylorlorenz glad you, Casey, Topolsky, etc are all starting to post here. Makes it easier to stay off that hellsite but keep up with the writers I want to read.
@taylorlorenz That’s like the kind of mistake the new admin makes on your IRC network, and people who weren’t even there are still teasing the person about it to this very day, even though the network is long gone
@taylorlorenz I don't see this as that crazy. I keep hearing how Platformer's coverage of Twitter happenings is so groundbreaking and revealing. I don't see any of it as a big deal. Twitter has always been a dumpster fire. It is going to take a while to put it out.
Excellent read> The state of affairs on #Twitter.
@taylorlorenz This is like having front row seats at the circus. Just don't get involved with the clowns.
@taylorlorenz good grief. This is getting worse and worse. Leaving all other points to one side for a moment - How does he expect to run a profitable company like this? And this is not even the most serious point!
@taylorlorenz all the goodbye posts are sad and wonderful. Someone should be cataloging them. I nominate you.
@taylorlorenz really great read! Thanks for sharing!
@taylorlorenz it’s really interesting to see so many people that I would consider power users leave Twitter. The end of days vibes are very much still in progress.
