TheVideoGameLibrary
@thevglibrary oh dang this is super neat!
@thevglibrary Question, Do you guys have magazine collections as well? I have a LOT of the Official Xbox Magazines that I only want to keep a few special editions of & they are collecting dust that I rather be put to a good archive or donated instead of recycled and destroyed. #OXM #Xbox #Magazines

@Jazzynupexbox

That's so kind of you! πŸ™ The Video Game Library is a free 'digital' resource for people to use, and as much as I'd love to add your magazines to the personal collection, it wouldn't be beneficial to others.

I'd recommend getting in touch with The Video Game History Foundation (@kelslewin), or some fellow magazine preservation experts in the community like @gamingalexandria and @OutofPrintArchive.

Thank you again for the generous offer!!

@thevglibrary @kelslewin @gamingalexandria @OutofPrintArchive Well if anyone wants to reach out with a message I am open. Eventually I may donate to a local library if no one else wants to preserve them. I will ship to you at no cost.

@Jazzynupexbox @thevglibrary @kelslewin @gamingalexandria

Oh, I've been wanting to do Xbox magazines for a while now. Especially since most people seem to focus on Playstation instead.
But sadly, I don't have any issues myself.

One small question though.
Are these UK or US magazines?
As I tend to focus on the UK side myself.

@OutofPrintArchive

@thevglibrary @kelslewin @gamingalexandria

These are US. I started getting them before launch. A few of those early ones I want to keep but many others I am willing to part with. If you just want to scan & return the ones I want that is fine too.

@Jazzynupexbox @thevglibrary @kelslewin @gamingalexandria
Oh I see.
That might complicate things a bit though, since I'm in Belgium myself.
So shipping them over here would cost a lot of money due to how heavy the boxes will be, and that's without import tax taken into consideration.

Also, I just had a look and I didn't realise that the magazine ran until 2020!
Sadly that's way too recent for me to work on as I don't touch magazine runs that are so recent...

@Jazzynupexbox @thevglibrary @kelslewin @gamingalexandria

But as The Video Game Library stated, Kelsey runs The Video Game History Foundation and I believe they work together with Gaming Alexandria on certain projects.
So they would perhaps be a more convenient solution?

Still, massive thanks for the offer. I really do appreciate it. 😊

Projects | Video Game History Foundation

We’re changing the future of video gaming’s past. We’ve built the first dedicated video game history research library, collected rare behind-the-scenes materials, built pop-up museum exhibits, and even recovered lost art for video game companies!

@OutofPrintArchive @Jazzynupexbox @thevglibrary @kelslewin I've let the other GA staff know about this, I'll get back when I have an answer πŸ™‚
@Jazzynupexbox @OutofPrintArchive @thevglibrary @kelslewin Hey! First of all: thanks for the very kind offer, and we would be interested in this material and help preserve it. We're video game history and preservation group, and yes we also collaborate with the VGHF. I will send you a direct message!

@thevglibrary

You may find https://archives.museumofplay.org/ as a resource, if you are not already aware of it.

@drazisil Yes, thank you!! I'm a big fan of what they do at The Strong.

They actually have their own book on #Gaming πŸ˜€

Got a breakdown of it here:

A HISTORY OF VIDEO GAMES IN 64 OBJECTS

World Video Game Hall of Fame Inspired by the groundbreaking A History of the World in 100 Objects, this book draws on the unique collections of The Strong museum in Rochester, New York, to chronicle the evolution of video games, from Pong to first-person shooters, told through the stories of dozens of objects essential to the field’s creation and development. Drawing on the World Video Game Hall of Fame’s unmatched collection of video game artifacts, this fascinating history offers an expansive

What would you recommend on learning how procedural generation works?

@drazisil I'll start off by saying I'm NOT a #GameDev - but for me, I feel Joshua Bycer's "Game Design Deep Dive: Roguelikes" is super accessible.

10 chapters that dive into the history and fundamentals of the procedural generation of #Roguelike games.

I have this book, so if you need any specific details before buying/borrowing, just let me know!!

Hope this helps πŸ˜€

GAME DESIGN DEEP DIVE: ROGUELIKES

Joshua Bycer Game Design Deep Dive: Roguelikes examines the history and rise of the often-confusing roguelike genre. Despite being more than 30 years old, the roguelike genre remains a mystery to a lot of consumers and developers. Procedural generation, or having the game generate content, has been a cornerstone and point of complexity since its inception. The 2010s saw an explosion of new designs and examples, along with a debate about what a roguelike is. The genre found its way back to mainst
