I just did my first experiment with #ChatGPT and it came up with a better description of what a #ParishCouncil does (and what a #parish is) than most journalists I've encountered....
This closing sentence to a question about the problems with parish councils is, frankly, better than most of the stuff written about #parishcouncil s. "Overall, the challenges faced by parish councils can often stem from a lack of resources, a lack of engagement with the community, and a lack of effective leadership."
@GarethTheBike how do you think people can bridge the "not the right type" gap? Thinking of Emma Grundy on #TheArchers which was one of the better storylines - but young working class mums don't usually join parish councils
@counsellingkaren They don't, and I think we have to do a fundamental rethink on how decisions are made - ending the obsession with one time and one space for decisions to be made is key for me - all too often meetings are the enemy of engagement
@GarethTheBike especially perhaps meetings based on patrichal models? I wonder how much things like chairs and committees reinforce barriers to participation?
@counsellingkaren I think part of the answer is taking away the theatre of meetings and decision making - you can trust people to make good decisions whether they're wearing a horsehair wig or a onesie so far as I'm concerned. On a political point the current UK government still won't make a decision on hybrid or remote meetings which could make a huge difference...
