techbros: learn to code

black person: I've got X years of experience in $language :D

techbros: NoT ThE rIGhT FiT

How about instead of "learn to code", White people learn to "hire people who don't look like them who already know how to code"?

Wacky shit, I know but hear me out

@somarasu The first team I ever hired was all over the phone (pre-zoom). When they showed up i had the most diverse team in the company _without even trying_. It put paid to every "not a fit" judgment i ever heard. I still keep the process as non-visual as possible (and have the most diverse team in my current co.) ITS NOT HARD MY FELLOW YT GUYS YOU JUST HAVE TO THINK FOR A MINUTE
@somarasu ugh yeah, software companies are so much just white dude and if we're feeling inclusive, white woman
@somarasu especially like "silicon valley" tech companies
@somarasu You should mention white "men" and not people. Remember that the majority of people who got laid off due to the pandemic are #women. Many of whom, like myself, are still looking for work are still into their two years of #unemployment . Yet, many companies rely on ATS which is why they not hiring #women and #bipoc. Yes, they put words in a machine that #disqualifies more qualified people.

@somarasu
> learn to "hire people who don't look like them who already know how to code"?
