@RaffKarva Superb photograph of a stunning bird...really love the list too! Corvids are often overlooked but they really are special. I was captivated by one only this morning while it successfully opened some human-made packaging.
@RaffKarva Have you heard of Crow Planet by Lyanda Lynn Haupt? Really nice book.
@RaffKarva they most likely do not hold funerals but rather perform autopsys, It is just as smart.
@RaffKarva
Eivor and Synin digged this toot.
@RaffKarva in my mind I read "crowds are super smart" and immediately thought: no they aren't, this is wrong. Glad I kept reading...

@RaffKarva

I love this....that subtle halo around the head is so cool and really picks out the silhouette. Amazes me how you can do this.

Plus the factoids....you just gotta love a crow

@RaffKarva Most of all we hate Ravens. Just cos they are a bit bigger than us and fly around like they have some sort of Royal Assent. They are thick as mince. We hate London Paraqueets less, even if they do speak in an annoying alien laser language.
@RaffKarva crows seem like a good subject for a game, what do you think ? @SInce
@KevinWickenden @RaffKarva
Definitely. I'm making a game based on my Crow-Girl character, on and off.
@RaffKarva The crow that came to chat
@RaffKarva
Such a handsome bird with shiny feathers.
Interesting color contrast. :)
@tombarkas @RaffKarva they are very intelligent creatures. Once in my garden a crow got it's toe caught in a fence catch. It was totally calm while I pushed the foot and bent the fence back. Even though it was bleeding it didn't fuss or anything. I gave it some bread and it revisited the garden several times. Other birds (like my doves) would have panicked and fussed like mad but the crow was patient.
@RaffKarva Makes me wonder what they taste like 😏
@kanzlerders @RaffKarva Go ahead. Test that theory about humans eating creatures that eat carrion.
@RaffKarva They learn; a nut dropped on the lawn won't crack. A nut dropped on a manhole cover in the lawn will.
@RaffKarva crows are smarter than chimps and can solve complex problems. I would say they are the smartest land animal on earth. They can pass on information to other crows about perceived threats.

@RaffKarva Can we build a cooperative world with the smartest animal species and actually take their wishes into account?

(while still safeguarding that cooperation so no single animal can take over and oppress all others — including us?)

@RaffKarva crows are our friends. Or if they don't like you, crows make very annoying enemies.
@RaffKarva
Now I'm imagining a caw with a Scottish accent.
@RaffKarva Your photographs are really great. Thanks for taking the time to post them xx
@RaffKarva how funny. I read this as, even now, I’m listening to crows in the trees on my front lawn. Serendipity. 💙
@RaffKarva I have a Scottish resident French friend who has only just discovered the huge list of odd collective pronouns we have in English. She pointed out that French had just “des”; «des corbeaux»
@RaffKarva They r almost impossible to catch except maybe a Hawk.
@RaffKarva
Very nice photo! And yes, the abilities of ravens have inspired me to write an urban fantasy novel with a raven as sidekick.
@RaffKarva
Thanks for sharing that. Great photo.
@RaffKarva i love crows. They are so fascinating. We get a lot of them in the field and I love watching them out of the window.
@RaffKarva This is such a beautiful photo. I absolutely adore crows and have been fortunate enough to befriend several. They're amazing creatures.
@inlucesco this may be relevant to your interests
@RaffKarva I visited lovely Edinburgh. I am crazy about crows 😃. Beautiful photograph 👍🏽
@RaffKarva my uncle used to have a crow that would come visit and “play” with him in the yard daily for years. He named it, it would respond and such.

@RaffKarva

Deep thoughts...If a group of crows is called "a murder of crows," then what's a group of humans? "an apocalypse of people?"

@RaffKarva We had skylights over our bed in NE Portland. There was a crow who, for several mornings in a row, would wake us up by pounding a leg bone on the skylight like a drum. Then it would just sit there taunting us until we got out of bed. 😂
@RaffKarva crows are phenomenal birds : how else have 1000’s of them survive all winter when there seems no food around ? - love em !

@RaffKarva this is a beautiful photo. I knew most of those facts but I did NOT know about regional dialects!

Can you elaborate? How do we know this? Is because from observation, crows from different areas can’t seem to relay information to other crows from other areas? I’m fascinated.

@RaffKarva There were two crows across the street. I told my daughter I saw an attempted murder.
@RaffKarva I've long held the opinion that two crows in close proximity should be called "an attempted murder."
@RaffKarva such a majestic bird, we have forest ravens in Tasmania.
@RaffKarva I *love* crows. When I see them I say "Hello, crow!". I left them some monkey nuts and in reply they left me a little gold statuette on my boat.
@RaffKarva crows are some of the most interesting animals to watch and observe
@RaffKarva I live directly in the flight path of the "Bothell Crows". Every evening, we have what we call "crow time" where for about 20 minutes, the outdoors are completely dominated by crows flying overhead.

@RaffKarva

This doesn't get enough attention, IMO.

The entire Raven family represents the most advanced tool users (and creators!) on the planet shy of humans.

As living dinosaurs, there are eons of evolution since our nearest ancestor (i.e. we're very, very, very distantly related).

This shows just how much "intelligence" is by no means exclusive to us, as humans, as apes or even as mammals!

We're not such a big deal. 🙂

@RaffKarva thanks this made me 😊. Crows are amazing birds. Crows, social wasps, and rats are my favorite animal “underdogs” and some of my favorite animals period.
@RaffKarva and a group of ravens is an "unkindness," at least they don't kill but ouch 😛
@RaffKarva the very best birds are corvids
@RaffKarva we used to feed magpies, who are also corvids, and they would bring us little shiny bread tags as gifts, and once found and returned a miniature wooden hammer that belonged to my son that he had lost. Corvids are the best!
@RaffKarva We have two trail camera areas on our property, where I drop corn daily. I can hear crows calling across the treetops to let others know when I’ve “made the drop.”
@RaffKarva Is one crow on its own, an attempted murder? 😂
@RaffKarva crows will also give you gifts if they consider you a friend
