"As the common theme from Raspberry Pi was to tell other users to unfollow them, and blocking any criticism, the Fediverse as a whole was very quick to react." https://eiara.nz/posts/2022/Dec/09/a-case-study-on-raspberry-pis-incident-on-the-fediverse/ #raspberrypi #fediverse
A Case Study on Raspberry Pi’s Incident on the Fediverse

A short case study covering what happened with Raspberry Pi on the Fediverse.

@jan I think another interesting thing is that the effect of blocking a user on masto vs the birdsite is different.

Over there, it also hides/demotes the blocked user's comments from followers or other viewers. I don't think it does that here, so the flippant brush offs to legitimate and constructively worded criticism remain very visible in their replies timeline (to non-blocked readers).

@jan I think this is a very interesting perspective on the 'why' this matters to the fediverse. It is less about the initial post and more about the instances' behavior after the fact.

Being pulled in to the court of public opinion is not something anyone wants. What you do when that happens matters and can help, or hurt you, depending on how you react. Thank you very much for sharing this blog post.

@jan A very interesting case study! I kind of want to post a version of the #strongbad GIF where he goes BALEETED but instead it says DEFEDERATED! Not very mature of me I know.
