I don’t like the word #handicap. I’m learning about its history. Did you know that the word has roots to a 17th century game of chance called “hand in the cap” or “hand-I-cap”? The game was supposed to have an umpire to make it fair, but games are rarely played fairly. This was a gambling game. Now, I am thinking of the narrative that “anyone could become #disabled anytime”. Yes, but #disabilities and experiences of #disability aren’t distributed equally or #equitably.
