i'm pretty sure my weight gain is due to less physical activity, because i was eating way unhealthier when i was away from home. so rather than obsessing over what i eat, i'm shifting my focus to exercise.

i was considering getting a smart watch, but i think for my use case, it's not very valuable.

so now i'm checking fitness apps and linking them to google fit. probably not the best decision privacy-wise, but i just want the data consolidated.

i'm attracted to nike training club's achievements feature though, and it's enticing me to log workouts there instead... i wish google fit would have that. heart points is nice, but i like how ntc gamed it

it is with shame that i say that i gave in and bought a smart watch 😅 ordering online so i hope it's legit 🤞

it's an Oppo Watch. chose it because of the price and WearOS. i've heard a lot of bad things about WearOS, but i'm mostly after Google Fit and Google Assistant. also saw that Google acquired Fitbit, so hopefully that bodes well for WearOS?

#google #fitness #WearOS #GoogleFit #SmartWatch

got the watch today. it's downright fake, not even an attempt to come close to what they advertised. i wasn't too surprised, actually, and immediately sent a return request.

so i spent another day obsessing over which one to order, with more reasonable expectations. i compromised, slashed my WearOS/Voice Assistant requirement, and settled for auto activity detection.

and so i've reached the conclusion that smartwatches still aren't so smart. they still need to pair with the phone for detection, detect late, need you to stop it, so it's recommended to start/stop tracking by yourself. my cheap phone already does auto activity detection.

#SmartWatches #Tech

of course, i'm awfully cheap so watches outside my budget may already do what i'm expecting. i still find them too costly for what they offer, especially with how much cheap phones can do now. i just expected better 🤷‍♀️

soooo i did still order a smartwatch but with more credible sellers this time lol. i was supposed to get the Amazfit Bip U but I saw the Poco Watch go on sale at a similar (slightly above) value, so I chose this :) got it today!

i got scared for a bit because the box was small so i was afraid the watch will be in a pouch, then i laughed when i opened it because inside is the smaller official box! cute :3

but howww do i open this
wow am i dumb HAHAHA so it actually just slips out 🤣 nearly ruined the box, i had to watch a literal unboxing video 😂 confirmed dumb by @cookieflips

the AMOLED display makes it a joy to behold :) it's a beauty, and the main reason i chose this over Amazfit Bip U.

the irony is that i'm immediately enclosing it in a case 😅

i just can't trust myself to keep my fingers clean at all times, and as a spacially-unaware person, there's a huge chance that i'll be banging the watch against walls and furniture.

1/x
First thoughts:
- the default vibration is scandalously strong 😅 and the only other option is literally "Stronger"
- good onboarding, good setup flow with info on which settings to update
- i was surprised that there's a microphone and there's an option to setup Alexa? haven't figured how to do that yet, or whether it's actually supported, but that's what i wanted from Amazfit Bip U. if it's supported, then Poco Watch is a solid option against Bip U

2/x
- it struggles with detecting my touches, even when bare. i was surprised actually that there's almost no change in touch detection between bare and with case. this doesn't stress me out... YET.
- UI has something like a short status bar at the top, where they unfortunately put buttons for going back or to view info. it takes abt 5 attempts to succeed. fortunately, they have the right swipe as another way to Go Back, just might take some getting used to.

3/x
- just because Mi Fitness supports a metric doesn't mean the watch does. just cofirmed that move minutes is not supported. i really want the PAI metric, but i'm afraid it won't be supported
- glad it's waterproof, i can wear it while washing my face
- the stress metric is quite fascinating. i wonder how i'll fare when i'm at work tomorrow
- the steps counter and standing metric are already encouraging. it tracked me going back and forth to our fridge 😂

#PocoWatch #SmartWatches

4/4
- steps match with google fit on my phone
- spo2 makes sense
- only 1% usage from all the fiddling from the last two hours!
- it seemed small when i held it, but looks alright when worn
- no regrets choosing blue!

hmmm, it's been 6 days and i'm a bit disappointed i've had to charge this early. to be fair, it's from 89% and now at 16% so about 12% per day?

i was projecting only 10% though based on the previous days, but today, i used gps. am also disappointed by how dumb it is, not detecting that i've finished my walk nor prompting me to check so it's on gps for abt 3hrs. that grossly miscalculated my burned calories, and i couldn't even edit it.

#smartwatches #PocoWatch

not super deal breaking for my needs though. i can say i got more active this week.

my planning and monitoring obsessed self plays well with the tracking and insights from having a fitness tracker.

for the price, which is basically one weekend deli/takeaway's worth (for 6people lol), so not bad!

location detection was quite good actually, and at least strava got a better sense of the calories. my gripes are actionable with mi fitness improvements.

#smartwatches #PocoWatch #MiFitness

i don't take off my watch when i wash my face or wash the dishes. i got a bit paranoid because i see water seeping under the watch case. i don't like the idea of water getting trapped there, so i removed the case!

almost broke a nail or two, it was too tight! i was afraid i'd damage the watch face, good thing i didn't.

#PocoWatch #SmartWatches

i installed some cheapass "tpu film". it's off by a mm though, so i'm not too confident abt the protection. there were also A LOT of air bubbles, which cheapened the appearance especially when the watch display is off. product description says the film will absorb(??) those bubbles within 48hrs. read that late so i scraped a lot lol, but i hope these bubbles do disappear 🥺

it's not glass, really just a film so i gotta be careful!

#PocoWatch #SmartWatches

they weren't lying! no more air bubbles! you could barely see the film outline. for sure though, this will only protect against scratches, not impact

fuck fuck fuck, it just had a loud drop from 2 meters FACE DOWN 😭😭😭 not a single crack tfc! i just hope the gps or any other onboard device don't get wonky huhuhu i've only had it for less than a month 😭😭😭

my poco phone has had countless of hard drops though and hasn't malfunctioned so i hope the watch will be fine too 🙏😭

unfriendly reminder to clean your watch!!!

mine is super filthy, i just saw it now because the strap is broken (boo!) and now i'm replacing it. for all our sakes, i won't post a pic but YUKK huhuhu sorry for being dirty

so hard to clean tho 😭 still seeing some dirt i couldn't get out
